Great "in-between" performance/value console!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There has been a lot said about this little giant. Yes, it's small, cute, and easy to install. While not as powerful as its bigger brother, Series X, and arguably less powerful than my Xbox One X, it more than satisfied my need to go "next-gen" at a price I can agree with. I installed it on my 1080p-240Hz monitor to take advantage of the refresh rate and so far I've been pleased. Even though only a few games take full advantage of the frame rate boost at this time, the ones that do work feel great. I did try it on my 60" 4K screen and it displayed a decent picture (1440p games, 4K video content). But I decided to keep the good ol' One X there instead. The controller feels slightly better than the previous generation. There's some texture on the underside and the buttons feel responsive without being sticky or mushy. There are a couple of things that take away from making the Series S an amazing console. First, there is no digital optical output. Unfortunately for me, the monitor does not have speakers and my desk soundbar does not have an HDMI input/passthrough. However, I ended up using the 3.5mm output from the monitor to the soundbar, sadly sacrificing digital sound. Second, the bugs. Oh, boy does this console have glitches! From the beginning, I have experienced disconnects, freeze-ups, garbled sounds, the console turning on its own or refusing to turn off with the controller, and controller/headphone disconnections. Thirdly, space. Coming at a flimsy 512GB with only 320GB real state, one can only download and install a few games or two or three AAA titles. One must purchase an HDD, SSD, or the incredibly expensive internal 1TB NVMe drive from Seagate, making it a much more expensive investment. At that point, a Series X would make more sense. While I understand the space restriction to lower costs, there is no excuse for the performance issues as they should've been addressed long ago. Still, I enjoy this little device. The loading speeds are phenomenal as well as the ability to resume any game instantly. The boost in frames is especially welcome since I play first-person shooters quite often, and there's no denying how compact and semi-portable the Series S is. So, I still believe this is a good "in-between" performance/value console. It's well priced as is and I can honestly recommend it, especially if you are not able to get the Series X at this time.

Xbox Series S: Next-Gen Gaming on a Budget
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Xbox Series S is a great pick if you’re after a budget-friendly next-gen console. It’s small, runs quietly, and delivers super smooth gameplay. No disc drive, but with Game Pass, you’ve got tons of games to play, so you won’t miss it. Load times are crazy fast, and it handles most games really well. If 4K isn’t a must for you, the Series S is totally worth it!

Definitely worth it.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like many, I was very skeptical about purchasing the Xbox Series S. The internal storage, lack of disc drive and all of the missing hardware capabilites made me really question on whether or not I should just wait for either the Series X or PS5 until I saw it available on Best Buy's website. After thinking it through, I decided to pull the trigger and it definitely is not a regret by any means. I purchased 2k21 which looks absolutely fantastic. I was a huge PS user during the last generation so I skipped out on alot of the proprietary games that were available on the Xbox One and was able to catch up on all of them along with downloading old classics dating all the way back to the original Xbox. I ended up purchasing an external hard drive (must have) to save a chunk of my games. I am playing games now that I completely forgot about from libraries I completely forgot existed and it is amazing. I love being able to relive my childhood and experience the new generation all in one console. For it's price of $299.99 this purchase was definitely worth it

Amazing Value and Performance!
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Xbox Series S, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! The compact design fits perfectly in my entertainment setup, and the performance is outstanding. Load times are incredibly fast thanks to the SSD, and the graphics are stunning – especially for such an affordable console. Game Pass has opened up a huge library of games for me to explore, making it a fantastic value. The controller feels great in my hands, and the overall user experience is smooth and intuitive. Whether you're a casual player or a hardcore gamer, the Xbox Series S offers amazing performance without breaking the bank. Highly recommend!

Xbox Seriea S - S for SMALL yet powerful
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Xbox Series S is an amazing console. It is compact, silent, incredibly fast, and has so many noteworthy features to offer. It boasts unbelievably fast load times, unnoticeable fan noise, a consistent and smooth FPS with no stutters, and excellent visual clarity. This unit is $200 cheaper than the Series X. The only drawback to the Series S that I can find is the storage capacity. Microsoft has been very misleading with the 512GB and 1TB claims for storage capacity on the Series S and X respectively. My Series S only comes with about 365GB of usable space, while apparently the Series X gets a beefier 800GB or so, but compared to 1TB that is still a big decrease. My solution to the low storage capacity on the Series S is to purchase a USB to SATA adapter along with an internal 2.5" SSD for a computer, I have gained an extra 500GB of room to play by doing this and it only cost about $60. Compared to the eye-watering price of $220 for a 1TB expansion card from Seagate, this external SSD setup holds far more value and flexibility at a drastically lower price. For the disappointingly low internal storage capacity, misleading storage capacity claims, and poor value storage upgrade options offered from Microsoft,

Great improvement for OG Xbox One users
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This a great little console for the money especially if you are, or plan to be a Xbox Game Pass Subscriber. The lack of a physical game drive is a little disappointing especially if you have a lot of old games on disk. The hard drive is 500gb which is fine if you are playing a lot of old games (digitally) or indie games, but if you want to play AAA games expect to only have 3 or 4 on your console at a time. and having to pay an extra $300 for the official expandable storage SSD kinda just makes me want take my chances on getting a Series X. I was playing on an original Xbox One before, so the jump in graphics and frame rate is great, but the most significant improvement is the load times thanks to the SSD. I feel like most modern games like Halo and Call of Duty you can usually get about 60 FPS which is nice compared to older consoles, but I remember them marketing the Series S as being able to get 120FPS which is a bit of a bummer that didn't come true. However if you do have a 120Hz TV or Monitor I think it can get 120Hz refresh rate which is also nice. Overall if you are coming from an original Xbox One or Xbox One S, and already have a lot of digital games owned or plan on becoming a Game Pass Subscriber, I think this console is great improvement and should be able to hold you over until the Series X becomes more available at retail price. Also another bonus for this thing is its overall size is pretty tiny which makes it super easy to toss in backpack or bag to bring to a friends house or when going out of town.

The Beast!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Series S offers plenty of present-day value considering it only costs $300. It's limited to 1440p resolution and has a claustrophobically small storage space, but it's tiny and quiet, with snappy load times, and can play games at 120 frames per second if your TV can support it.

Great console
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This a a great console for 1080p and 1440p gaming at 60 fps. It will still look great on a 4K panel as well. If you are coming from an Xbox one console you won’t regret this at all the graphics, load times, and the way it feels is all so much better. The ssd makes all the difference with the loading times and fluidity if the UI. I think coming from an Xbox one X, this is a good upgrade as well, since new games won’t be optimized for the One X anymore in the coming years. If you’re a casual gamer this is perfect, if you’re a hardcore gamer that wants the best fps and best resolution the series X is the better option. One downside is the storage capacity. It is marketed as a 512 gb drive but only 300 and something is usable. I personally don’t play that many games at once so it is fine but if you play lots of huge games then the series x is the better option. I also feel like marketing this as a 1440p console is not truly accurate as most titles run at 1080p 60 and sometimes 1440 30. Overall I am happy with my purchase and it is a great and affordable way to experience next gen games.

Fits some very particular use cases perfectly
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most affordable next generation system with some very particular drawbacks: + Fast Loading - all new storage that is as fast as the SeriesX - Small capacity - only 500gb (versus 1TB on the X) -- expanding with USB speeds works for non S/X games but newer games want fast storage. Current 1TB expansion (fast) is $200 +Supports all of the latest next gen graphics - But focuses on 1080p for most TV sets Overall is a great system for low cost if you want next generation performance and don't need the highest end 4K. I personally use this as my kids system as a second system beyond the Series X for Dad. Note: is a FANTASTIC travel system, very small form factor that can travel in your cary on bag and lets you game when traveling for work

Poorly Packed Box
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Product came in a box that was not tightly packed, when I picked up the box the console started shifting around inside. Best Buy did put in a few bubble pillows, however once the box turned or flipped over once it all shifted around. I have yet to test the console out because it’s a Christmas gift

Compact Powerhouse for Next-Gen Gaming!
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Xbox Series S, and I am genuinely impressed! This console offers an incredible value for anyone looking to experience next-gen gaming without breaking the bank. Its compact design is sleek and fits perfectly in small spaces, which is a huge plus for me. The setup was quick and easy, and I was up and running in minutes. In terms of performance, the Series S does not disappoint. The load times are insanely fast thanks to the SSD, and the graphics are crisp, with smooth frame rates in all the games I’ve tried. Although it doesn’t have a disc drive, Xbox Game Pass makes it easy to access a massive library of games at a very reasonable price. The digital-only aspect was initially a concern, but with Game Pass, it’s a non-issue. If you’re looking for an affordable next-gen experience and don’t mind going digital, the Xbox Series S is a fantastic choice!

Powerful little beast!
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I opened the box, I was shocked at how compact this little monster is. When standing on its side, it has a smaller footprint than my iPhone 13, and it is perfect for home or travel. It runs as smooth as my series X. Only complaint is the memory, but with the 1 TB coming out in fall 2023, I would opt for this and save the money unless you really value the higher frame rate and disc drive offered by the series x. This is a genuine contender.

The little console that could
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Incredible value coupled with Game Pass. I’m a long time PlayStation guy. I haven’t had a Xbox console since the original 360 (bought at launch). But man, I gotta say I love my Series S. Game Pass is just an amazing service. Pros: -An incredible amount of content with Game Pass. -Supports 4K@120fps if you have a 120Hz TV. -Fast load times Cons -Not a lot of storage. The SSD upgrade is $200. -No disk drive. If you want to play Xbox games and can’t find a Series X, the Series S is a great value. As long as you’re okay with no disc drive and the storage being what it is.

Judge me by my size do you?
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This little machine is super quiet and pretty powerful. I purchased two of these for my kids as I am still holding out for the Series X. Let me say that these tiny machines run games way better than my XB1X. I’m jealous of how fast they load games. When I get a chance, I sneak in some play time on them. Outriders runs so smooth on them. Only bad thing is the small hard drive, but I purchased external drives for them and they work great. All enhanced games go on the internal and not enhances stay on the external. For the price… with GamePass… it’s the best deal in gaming.

There is no better machine for $299
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second one and i also have a series x . It is a very small console , i can fit it in my wife's purse if i had to . Super fast load times and 120fps . It is whisper quiet and a bargain when paired with Xbox games pass . There are 100s of games available for download and even though the HD is only 500gb the download speeds make it almost a non-issue if you have decent internet. For the price of a Nintendo switch you can have a really good machine , it may not play in 4k but will do 1440p on some games.

The best value in gaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am an old school gamer who generally likes to own games on physical media. This is not the system for that purpose. If you have a lot of xb0/x360/xb1 disc games or BRD movies you want to play then you probably want to wait for an X. After somewhat mailing it in last generation, I really like the changes M$ Is making this generation. Last generation M$ went all in on backwards compatibility. Now they are carrying it forward giving us four generations of XBOX on the new platform. Taking this approach and then offering subscription software service with game pass was a smart move. This is where the value comes in. XSX for $300 is a great kit for the price. Its essentially a 1080p next gen console. GP is $15 month…..its an incredible value and for those without a large disc library or on a budget then this is a great way to have a huge library to play for far less than the cost of a game a month. M$ Is making more smart moves by acquiring major publishers meaning major exclusive games will come to GP day one and stay on GP. The next great move is the X/S optimization kit. Many publishers have been willing to take last gen games and use M$ tools to enhance them. Generally making FPS and load time improvements, some games that just fell short last gen are running great now. Ark Survival is a good example. Ran relatively crappy on everything but a high spec PC…runs great on little Series S with steady 60fps and fast load times. This can enhance some great favorites but better yet breaths new life into games held back by performance issues, So I just like the moves M$ is making and the S is a great entry point for next gen on a budget. The system is compact and sleek and very portable. If you have an older 1080p TV or play on a gaming monitor its a great fit. Personally I’ll get an X later but currently they are so hard to find and I wanted to be playing Forza5 and Halo by years end,

Series s affordable next gen
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my sister and she loves it. Fast load times, quick resume, and small enough to fit anywhere. The series s is an affordable way to play on the next generation. Only $300 compared to $400-500. Sadly there is only 512 gb internal but you can use already owned external storage if you need more. If you need more. It runs very quiet and has pretty good performance too. I have a series x but was almost regretting my purchase when I saw the series in use.
