I've owned an Xbox Series X since launch. My review will be based on the differences in both. But, if you're looking to step into NextGEN gaming... the Series S is a great starting place PROS: - A great price point if you're not heavily gaming (A few hours a week) - Backwards Compatibility Catalog (Not all but some great OG Xbox and 360) - Game Pass basically adds a library of over 100 games (from AAA to Indie) which makes it perfect for the Series S - No controller drift... yet (Series X) - Resolution and Framerate improvements to older games CONS: - Lack of NEW Games (that take advantage of the system power) PREFERENCES (Things that can be a pro or con based on the user) - Controller is a little smaller (In some games that work in my favor, in others it don't) - Series S doesn't have True 4K 60fps (but a lot of the time I'm playing in 1080p 120fps) Some might like the review, some might not. But, this review is intended to help you decide whether you want a Series S. In my opinion, Series S and Game Pass are a bargain.

This is an absolute steal if you dont want to do 4k gaming. 1440p + 120hz. I still cant believe this is for so cheap. If anything games run better on the series S than the series X imo due to less overheating. The series X gets a ton more drops. If you dont care about 4k gaming...THIS IS A STEAL!!!!! This is coming from a PC gamer with a Ryzen 9 5950x, 32gb G.Skill Ram CL14-15-15-35, EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3, EVGA x570 MOBO. ATLEAST THERE ARE HARDLY ANY CHEATERS ON CONSOLE GAMING COMPARED TO DESKTOP!!!!!!

I stepped up from the original Xbox one and the Xbox series S has not disappointed me. I realize the X comes with some more advancements but the S is a powerhouse and I have been very pleased with its power. It is priced well I believe. I do not have the expansion card which is crazy priced but do have a standard 2 TB external hard drive.

More powerful than most people think it is!

I have had my Series S for almost two months now and it really is a little beast. I am coming from an OG Xbox one and a tv from yrs ago. There was a big difference with what i saw in terms of graphics and details. Easy to set up and it loads games very quickly. My one problem before i got it was that it is difital only. I liked having an option to load up physical discs. That cant be done but as i used it , that turned into less of a deal. I had downloaded games from Xbox one and Xbox 360 and a very vast majority can be played on the S, through backwards compatibility. The HD is an ssd is very fast at both booting up the console and starting games. I have both my Series S and Xbox one on the same network and both hooked up to my TV, but the Series S makes it so hard to go back! The Series S cant do real 4k but it can upscale to that and do 120 fps for games that are designed for the new gen. so long as your TV can do that. I would stress again that this is a digital machine and does not play physical discs and if you have adequate internet (bandwidth/data) then you should be good to go. The controller. It is SLIGHTY smaller than the controller for Xbox One. It is however texter to grip better and feels way more solid. I was skeptical before i used it but now it feels so good to use. It does not have the raw power of true 4k abilities that Series X has but unless you must have that and you have a TV capable of what is required, at 4k resolutions and also 120 hz, then get the Series X. Most people by in large dont have that setup and if you have a HD tv and not 4k or above tv, the Series S will definitely do good for you. The gameplay is fast and smooth. I went to the options and turned everything up as high as those settings would go. Multiple MMO games and adventure games to test out the settings. With depth of field and shadows and grass and particles..anti- alising at max, the games looked great and played very smoothly. I have had a whole lot of fun with my Series S and I would definitely by it again, no questions asked and highly recommend it too.

So I have owned the Xbox Series S and X for about a week now, and each has its upsides and downsides. The S is only $300, making it a great value for anyone looking for a new Xbox console. I have purchased the game pass, and I feel like it is a must-have for the S. It has so many great games and such a vast library. It is a shame that it does not include Call of Duty games, but the fact that it has every Battlefield and Halo game included makes up for it. I have two main complaints about it. The first is the storage size; for an all-digital console, it is important to have a large hard drive, but it is not. After installing Halo MCC and Call of Duty Black Ops 3, half the hard drive was already filled. My second complaint is the lack of a disc drive. I find myself going to the Xbox Series X more and more because of the disc drive. It is an advantage because you can buy used disc to save money. This might save money in the long run and can actually be cheaper than the S because of the savings. You are also able to sell used discs, which you cannot do with digital games. Overall, if you are looking for a game pass device and only want to buy a few games here and there, this is the device for you.

This is the system to get if you want to experience AAA next gen gaming that won’t break the bank. I have a Switch (which I love) and decided to buy this system as a stop gate to the Switch’s successor. I enjoy PC gaming too so I was already in the Microsoft ecosystem. This system does not disappoint.

Awesome next gen console in a small package. I picked this one up to install in my family room for quick gaming sessions. It’s super fast, has amazing graphics, and is super silent. Can’t go wrong with this one if you don’t need a disc drive.

I purchased this product and did not expect much from it (given its price tag). However, I was absolutely astonished by the pure power of this tiny beast! The Series S can do 1440p60 gaming easily at an extremely cheap price. If you are a beginner to console gaming, or are on a budget; this console is for you.

    Solid Performance & Great Value

I recently picked up a refurbished Xbox Series S from Best Buy, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well it performs. The console arrived in great condition—clean, with no visible scratches or damage—and it included all the original accessories. Setup was quick, and within minutes I was downloading games from Xbox Game Pass. Performance-wise, the Series S is impressive for its size. Load times are lightning fast, gameplay feels smooth at up to 120 FPS on supported titles, and the compact design fits perfectly in my entertainment setup. As a fully digital console, it’s a perfect match for Game Pass and my mostly digital library. The only drawback is the 512 GB storage, which fills up quickly if you install larger AAA titles. An expansion card or external SSD will likely be my next purchase. Also, while the Series S can upscale to 4K, it’s designed for 1440p gaming—so if you’re chasing pure 4K visuals, the Series X is the better choice. Overall, for the price I paid on a refurbished unit, this is hands-down one of the best values in gaming. Compact, quiet, and powerful enough for most modern games—it’s a great option for casual and even mid-core gamers who want next-gen performance without breaking the bank.

    Compact Great for Travel

Surprisingly compact and capable little gaming console. I have the Series X which is huge compared to this one but needed something small to take it with me for travel to keep myself and my kids entertained while on a trip and vacation. Since I’m so hooked on playing Diablo 4 and remote play is an issue when internet speed reliability is a requirement, having a direct game access is better suited for my needs. Along with buying this console, i also bought an external monitor. For what it is, it is more than enough to play even the most demanding games. Though the games i usually play are just casual and mostly RPGs and Simulation, this is more than enough for me personally. With that said, you cant beat the price for what it offers. Highly recommended.

i love this xbox but i’ve had some problems with it early on while getting it. it’s mostly just the xbox program itself like the menu buttons sometimes just don’t work (not on the controller i mean like the digital menu). it’s fixable with a refresh home button sometimes but just has some weird issues every now and then. also xbox game pass ultimate is so expensive and one time they charged me even when i didn’t authorize ❤️. i still love the xbox itself tho

Ive owned every gaming console since the inTelevison. Google it. The series s is a great little console with enough horsepower for most people. Its best selling point is ofcourse the price. The resolution is great on a 4k tv. Most people will not be able to tell its not true 4k. Since I’ve had kids ive downgraded to being a casual gamer and this console has been just fine for me. Xbox game pass is also amazing. Ps5 is struggling with putting out games these days so xbox has the edge here.

I’ve have both the PS5 and Series S. They are both great, but the price point the Series S is offered at along with the ability to run games at 1440p 120hz is amazing and a lot more practical than the hdmi 2.1 4k 120hz the series x and ps5 offer at the moment. The game selection for Xbox is also step ahead of playstations, in my opinion, and if you are subscribed to game pass you’ll have a massive selection of games to download free of charge.

Over all pretty happy with it . It downloads and starts up much faster then my Xbox one x. The video quality looks great 1440p - 4K upscale on my tv. I wanted the series x but availability is crap. The only thing I don’t like is it’s not native 4K and not having a disk drive aren’t really super important but still would be nice . Major down fall is the storage or lack there of . You can have like 3 titles stored before taking up all your space . The aftermarket memory card will be a must if you plan to use this as your only console. I’m using my usb storage for now for my Xbox one games luckily I only own 3 games formatted for the series s . I will eventually make this console my back up / bedroom console snd upgrade to the series x. But if you don’t have the money for the big guy this console is plenty enough for everyday gaming . I have it four stars because it is a nice console.

Wanted to get this Xbox since my Xbox One died out on me. This one has been great to me, nice and quiet. Solid FPS in any game, no complaints. 512GB storage is good unless you want to get the newest large GB games today and keep them installed, otherwise get an external HD / SSD or larger internal xbox drive.
