Great machine, but wait a little longer

I was quick enough to purchase one of these cool little consoles in December. I was pleasantly surprised by how compact the console is. I’m gonna hand you all my man card and call it cute. I was excited at the thought of all the possibilities with this machine. It’s small and light enough to throw in a bag and take with you wherever. Gaming on it was great, games load up very quickly. I hooked it up to a 4k TV and the upscaled 4k looks pretty good to my old eyes. When set up with a 120hz monitor , you’ll be able to take advantage of 1080 or 1440p at 120hz monitor. Gaming at those frame rates was pretty cool and visually impressive, especially with racing games. I still feel like this machine should come with at least 1TB of storage because it fills up quickly and buying external storage is expensive. Sadly, I had to return this console today because it started to lag and freeze on me constantly. It did it with just about every fast paced game I played on it. Fortnite, forza 4. After about 5-10 minutes of playing, I noticed it began to lag a little here and there and then video freezes but audio keeps playing. I dunno if it’s a hardware defect or software glitch but I saw on forums that people are shipping them back to Microsoft when this happens. It’s a lovely little machine and I truly enjoyed it while it worked. I would recommend waiting a bit longer til Microsoft figures out what is causing the problem and fixes it. Perhaps they’ll start shipping them later with a 1TB version also. And don’t pay scalpers the excessive amounts they are asking for any of these consoles. Pros : So small! Fast storage, quick load times Nice modern design Cons : Experienced lag and freezes with my unit Only 512gb of storage Would I recommend? Yes, but wait a couple of months until Microsoft sorts out the problems. But keep in mind that this console doesn’t have a disc drive and space is very limited. You’ll fill it up very quickly. You can use an external SSD but games optimized for Series X and S need to be installed on internal drive or Microsoft’s expensive proprietary expansion drives.

I purchased this because I couldn't get my hands on a Playstation 5, and I have to say, this console compliments Game Pass well. More than enough storage for about 10+ games (not AAA titles that take up to 80+ GBs). This is definitely keeping me busy until more Playstation 5's available.

Great Next Gen Console On A Budget

Superior gaming system for someone that likes to play only occasionally and when they have the time and on a budget. Graphics are better than most consoles (my PS4) and the price point makes it worth it (less than the Series X and the graphics are just as good). You get to play just about all the games in the Xbox library for a small monthly fee just like the Series X. I upgraded the memory storage to have plenty of space on the limited internal hard drive by buying a WD Black 5TB external HD from BB that was on sale so I have no trouble downloading large memory games. I was thinking of upgrading from my PS4 to the PS5 but for the price and availability the S is the better system for me. I had to get in on the early demand for the holidays too so I bought one right away.

I bought this when they had a deal for $249.99 with a free extra controller added, so that may have influenced my five stars. It does stutter a but in some 60 fps games but at this price point it doesnt matter at all.

I picked up a PS5 for myself and an Xbox series S for my son, and to be honest (and I’m a Sony guy normally) I’m a bit more impressed with this little console! It’s actually silent whereas the ps5 does have some fan noise, and if you have a model with a disc drive. Playing physical games adds to that noise ... The only place that Sony has Microsoft beat is the controller....Well in some ways... The new Xbox controller is an Improvement from the Xbox one controller, a very minor one, but with making only minor improvements, Microsoft has managed to maintain a battery life that we’ve come to expect. The PS5 Dualsense on the other hand, with its new features such as an internal microphone and adaptive triggers suck the battery about 25% quicker than these depending on what game your playing and how much these features are utilized.. overall there are pros and cons for both consoles.. but my list of cons is a bit shorter for the Xbox Series S than it is for the PS5. Buy it if you get the chance! You won’t regret it!

I have been a PlayStation guy all my life. Due to shortages, I decided to give this a go since I could find one. Oh Boy! This cute, small machine (it is small!!) is mighty powerful, very quiet, and the controller feels amazing. What sold me is when you combine it with gamepass—there is just no beating the value proposition: I have not bought a game yet, and for 15/mo, you have access to dozen of AAAs (100+ total games), and I find myself trying new game genres because it is for free; or you can stream them right through the console, like Netflix, but for games! Very happy with it. Just buy a rechargeable battery pack for the controller because for some reason, in 2021, they want you to put duracells in the controller...

Best Buy was the only store I could find this system at! It’s much more responsive than last-gen consoles, I couldn’t believe the difference in load times and refresh rates. The new controller is awesome and has a ton more grip than the old ones. Overall awesome product and glad Best Buy had one in stock!

I was lucky enough to get the Series S before Christmas for my 11 year old son. He is quite happy with it. I was a little nervous about the lack of a disk drive, but it has been a non-issue. He uses the Ultimate Game Pass and uses the console as a way to play online. So far, it has been a big hit.

I have been looking forward to the new XBox Series consoles and the enhanced experience. After using it regularly since I purchased it, I have to be honest that I am underwhelmed. I do not believe that is the fault of the hardware, but rather the games (which I know will come). If your XBox One has died and you are looking for a new console, this is perfect. But if that's not the case, wait for the supply to go back up. PROS: (MANY!) • The price! The $300 price point is fantastic! I've read criticism of the Series S, but I think it is a wonderful price point to access "Next Generation" gaming and titles, especially if you see gaming as recreation. • The size - I continue to be surprised by how light and small this console is. (are you sure this is an XBox?) • Load times - with most games, (especially compared with previous generation hardware) almost non-existent • Standby feature - you can place your games on "standby" much like you can do with the Nintendo Switch. This works with most (but not all) games. • Improved graphics - You can tell the differences in frame rate and graphics textures on high definition televisions and monitors • Interface - The Series S/X interface, although similar to the XBox One, has some slight differences and modifications that make it even more accessible. CONSIDERATIONS: • 512 GB for a completely online console? That's like 4-5 "A-List" titles! (RDR2, Halo MC Edition, Cyberpunk 2077, SW Battlefront 2 and...what? Full? Give me a break!) • Gameplay - Despite the improved graphics and framerates, I still have not had the experience that makes me go, "Wow." Like I said though, I think that has much more to do with the games. Great games on XB One are still great games on the Series S/X. With that being said... • Games - Despite fantastic load times and improved interface, there just still is not that game that makes you stand up and take notice. Solid, good games with improved visuals. Recent trend of next gen games going from $60-$70? Not ready to leap that far yet.
