Customers commend the Xbox Series S for its affordability, compact size, and impressive performance, especially considering its price point. Many appreciate the ease of use and fast load times, along with the benefits of Xbox Game Pass. However, some users point out limitations in storage capacity and the lack of a disc drive as significant drawbacks. The console's resolution capabilities also receive mixed feedback.

There has been a lot said about this little giant. Yes, it's small, cute, and easy to install. While not as powerful as its bigger brother, Series X, and arguably less powerful than my Xbox One X, it more than satisfied my need to go "next-gen" at a price I can agree with. I installed it on my 1080p-240Hz monitor to take advantage of the refresh rate and so far I've been pleased. Even though only a few games take full advantage of the frame rate boost at this time, the ones that do work feel great. I did try it on my 60" 4K screen and it displayed a decent picture (1440p games, 4K video content). But I decided to keep the good ol' One X there instead. The controller feels slightly better than the previous generation. There's some texture on the underside and the buttons feel responsive without being sticky or mushy. There are a couple of things that take away from making the Series S an amazing console. First, there is no digital optical output. Unfortunately for me, the monitor does not have speakers and my desk soundbar does not have an HDMI input/passthrough. However, I ended up using the 3.5mm output from the monitor to the soundbar, sadly sacrificing digital sound. Second, the bugs. Oh, boy does this console have glitches! From the beginning, I have experienced disconnects, freeze-ups, garbled sounds, the console turning on its own or refusing to turn off with the controller, and controller/headphone disconnections. Thirdly, space. Coming at a flimsy 512GB with only 320GB real state, one can only download and install a few games or two or three AAA titles. One must purchase an HDD, SSD, or the incredibly expensive internal 1TB NVMe drive from Seagate, making it a much more expensive investment. At that point, a Series X would make more sense. While I understand the space restriction to lower costs, there is no excuse for the performance issues as they should've been addressed long ago. Still, I enjoy this little device. The loading speeds are phenomenal as well as the ability to resume any game instantly. The boost in frames is especially welcome since I play first-person shooters quite often, and there's no denying how compact and semi-portable the Series S is. So, I still believe this is a good "in-between" performance/value console. It's well priced as is and I can honestly recommend it, especially if you are not able to get the Series X at this time.

Excellent console. If it had an external disk drive you could hook up to it, I’d have been sold. I prefer physical media. I buy less of it (beat a larger percentage of the games I do buy) and can resell it down the line. But went with the series x because less pop in and a disc drive

This machine is a great supplement to any gamers collection. If your not a super xbox fan and opted to get a PS5.... or to wait for one, then this is a great option. You get access to all the games you want through the game pass and you dont have to collect physical media for a system thats not your main or favorite.

Decent little system. Allows you to play modern and previous xbox games at a reasonable price. Purchased with a game pass subscription and the number of games available is impressive.

The Xbox Series S may be the budget-friendly option, but it certainly doesn’t compromise on quality. It’s a powerhouse for its size, delivering next-gen performance without breaking the bank. Whether you’re a casual gamer or a dedicated enthusiast, the Xbox Series S is a fantastic choice that exceeds expectations. In conclusion, the Xbox Series S has redefined my gaming experience. Its powerful performance, sleek design, and extensive game library make it a top-tier console in its class. I wholeheartedly recommend the Xbox Series S to anyone looking for a high-quality gaming console without the premium price tag.

Xbox Series S - Excellent NexGen Upgrade

Xbox Series S is a fantastic upgrade from previous generation consoles - specifically Xbox One. The loading speed, quick resume, ease of connectivity, reduced size, quiet operation and portability of the device are all big pros. This console is responsive without any real noise or heat issues that are noticeable with other consoles. At current price point of $299 this Xbox was a great option for upgrade to keep up with more powerful games. Minor cons include: -The internal 500GB (approx. 364GB available) hard drive mean users need to balance game files and usage vs. access to external storage devices or internet access. -The current SSD plug-in marketed for these new generation consoles cost almost as much as the console itself. Better off looking into HDD to cold storage games you are not currently playing and would rather transfer over instead of re-download. -Given it is an all digital device, no option for disc based games but there is easy access to GamePass as with other Xbox consoles. Overall very pleased with device after 6-months of continuous use.

It works great. No issues with any game so far. I don't have a $2,000 latest tech 65 inch big screen, but it looks great on my 55 inch Samsung. Loads fast, runs fast. I have game pass, so I'm not too worried about storage, but I'd like to see more storage options soon. Reasonably priced storage options. The only downside is the learning curve on some of the navigation and on how to play coop games. It's not obvious how to do splitscreen on fortnite or rocket league for example. I had to search on the internet to figure it out. Haven't had a console since the original xbox, however. My kids are young, still a few years from being teenagers, so they really don't care we didn't get the series x. They just want to play some games! Me too! Your kids probably won't care either. If they do... start teaching more humility! Ha! With game pass and 3 people in my house playing it....i might buy the series x next year to keep us from arguing over who gets to play what and when! Not disappointed with this purchase. I would do again.

Like many, I was very skeptical about purchasing the Xbox Series S. The internal storage, lack of disc drive and all of the missing hardware capabilites made me really question on whether or not I should just wait for either the Series X or PS5 until I saw it available on Best Buy's website. After thinking it through, I decided to pull the trigger and it definitely is not a regret by any means. I purchased 2k21 which looks absolutely fantastic. I was a huge PS user during the last generation so I skipped out on alot of the proprietary games that were available on the Xbox One and was able to catch up on all of them along with downloading old classics dating all the way back to the original Xbox. I ended up purchasing an external hard drive (must have) to save a chunk of my games. I am playing games now that I completely forgot about from libraries I completely forgot existed and it is amazing. I love being able to relive my childhood and experience the new generation all in one console. For it's price of $299.99 this purchase was definitely worth it

The Xbox Series S is a great value for the money and a worthy upgrade from the old Xbox One. It is small and lightweight and is very quiet. Be advised it does NOT have a disc drive. I thought I would miss having the disc drive but I do not. Everything you need, you can download off the Microsoft store. No discs = no hassles. It obviously is not as powerful as the Series X, but you won’t even be able to tell the difference. The only thing I really don’t like about it is that the system hard drive is a meager 512GB. You can get a 1TB expansion card, but in 2021 they are still very expensive, but they are expected to drop in price down the road a bit. All in all, I would recommend the Series S, especially since at the time of this review, the Series X is still nearly impossible to find.
