Great entry to the next generation

As someone enjoying the Xbox Game Pass, this new console was an inexpensive transition to the next generation. Having game pass allows me to play on multiple devices whenever I want, but when I really want to see great graphics and a quick boot process, powering on this console and being on my games in less than 30 seconds make it so much better. My original Xbox One took so long to load, and thats an issue of the past with the Series S. Absolutely lovd this console!

Its small, quiet, and a lot of fun. Got it for myself and a roomate and we both can use it when we want. No disc slot which is fine for me. I dont need to have that as i stream everything anyway and i dont care about return value on trade in. For thise that want to buy physical discs this is not for you. The smaller memory is kinda nnoying but truth be told i dont keep to many games on it at once so no impact yet. Overall i would recommend for a fun gather around or hey maybe its just for you, wither way i think youll enjoy

While the Xbox Series X is more appealing to me (better 4k support, disc drive, black colorway), the Series S has a key super power: you can actually buy it. I found that Microsoft has really blurred the lines between Xbox One and Xbox Series, and the Series S performs a lot like a better Xbox One X. Nothing to complain about, but it also doesn't feel like an entirely new product. The styling is a little goofy but serviceable. The size is very compact and portable for a home console. Game Pass may be the best value in gaming, and this box is a great way to tap into that giant ecosystem of old and new games.

Great system but not enough storage

Got this as a very special Christmas gift from our nephews. Somehow they found out a Best Buy near them had series S systems a few days after Christmas, they didn’t keep it for themselves but gave it to me because they knew the new Xbox was something I wanted. Going for a Xbox one S is easy, we kept most of our games on portable hard drive so swapped it over. It feels a little underwhelming at first because the interface looks just like the Xbox one but man is it faster. All the old app work great, seem to load quicker and in some cases look better. Biggest gripe is the internal storage is too small, I know it’s cutting edge and expensive but it’s easy to fill up. For example COD War Zone and black ops filled the disk, when the update came the both could no longer fit. Do we bought the 1tb internal storage upgrade which is brilliant but expensive. Really cool how it installs and is ready to go. BTW COD Black ops multiplay plays much faster than the Xbox one edition, guess that’s to be expected since this Cold War was made for Series S &X not playing the old systems software. Really happy with it but still would like a series X. Still this does 90% of all we need it to.

      Hi there,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feedback about your new Xbox Series S. Your input helps our team as they develop the next generation of Xbox devices.

Did you know that games that haven't been optimized for Xbox Series X/S can be played directly from an external hard drive? If you're running out of space on the internal SSD, it's a good way to continue playing your old favorites.

      Happy gaming,

Decided to buy this since I can never find the Series X. This little machine does not disappoint. I even received it early. Had a slight issue with the WiFi disconnecting every 20 minutes, but after I reset the console this hasn’t happened since. The connection is great, apps are fast and games load up in seconds. I am very happy with this purchase. I actually have most games digital so I could care less about not having the disc drive. I love how small this console is and quiet as well. The machine does not even get hot. You could easily take this with you out of town. I ended up buying the SSD expansion drive, which is pretty expensive so it was like buying the Series X, still I am very happy I decided to buy this. I figure they’ll be coming out with the pro version in the next few years, so I’ll probably upgrade then.

Hard to get my hands on one, but for it's price and the count of power it's capable of, this is a no brained for casual gamers. All digital does limit it, but game pass and streaming services make this console more than enough for me.

I'll keep this review short and quick Pros & Cons Pros- -Great for emulation -backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 and XBOX games run at 1440p -Great for media playback -Price is decent for what this does however try to get this console on sale not full price Cons- -Backwards compatibility for xbox one games do not get any benefit aside from unlocked framerate games -Backwards compatibily for xbox one games it runs the xbox one games not the one X games for some odd reason when this console is cleary powerful enough to do so -Games optimized for Series S still run terribly as of this writing -I would only recommend this console for people with 1080p monitors UNLESS ur using it for backwards comp. for 360 and before games then you get the resolution boost to keep it short save ur money for the series X dont give in to this

This console is a game changer. Load times, FPS, temps you name it, this thing is rolling over the competition. I play pc primarily and use this when I have friends over. I notice similar load times to that of a multi-thousand dollar rig.

Microsoft has done an excellent job with the Series X/S. The One S was pretty good, but this one blows the doors off that one. It runs pretty cool and it is really fast. Have yet to try connecting an external hard drive, but if it is anything like the One S then it should be a cinch. I also need to give tons of kudos to Best Buy for how they managed their new stock between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I managed to get a unit with time to spare before Christmas thanks to the "waiting line" they instituted to release stock during the day after they replenish some. It worked as advertised and made it significantly harder for the 3rd party re-sellers from buying-up the newer stocks. Many thanks Best Buy for the forward thinking and change to allow a more level playing field in acquiring these hard-to-find units. We had a blast in Christmas thanks to this.

21st Birthday and my gaming son wanted the new Xbox Series S. Loves playing Madden and the new College Football games on it with his friends. Doubles as a smart device letting him get on NetFlix, Max etc so he does not need a Smart TV at college.

Great affordable console! This is really a gamepass machine, it is well worth every cent of $300! It does 1080p 60hz on most but not all games! A huge upgrade from the xbox one s, not so much a big upgrade from xbox one x!

Good system that's low priced without dealing with dvds. This feels more next level because you got access to your library of games instantly with a push of a button. As long as Microsoft supports the console, this is 5 stars.

No 4K TV? The Series S is Perfect For You

If you don't have a 4K TV, then buying this thing is a no-brainer. No need to buy a Series X or PS5 until your TV set up is upgraded. You're essentially getting games at 1080p, however they run incredibly smooth at 60fps. The system targets 1440p but I wouldn't expect that until further down the line. Load times are super fast and rival some gaming PCs. Xbox has an optional membership for its games (think Netflix for games). When a first-party game (Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Fallout, Ori, etc.) is released, it immediately becomes available for download. I'd highly recommend joining Game Pass if you purchase the disc-less Series S.

Actually very disappointed in the XBOX series S. It is mainly the performance. I have a series X and am mainly a PC gamer. the X and S are TOTALLY different devices and are seemingly years apart with graphical power and speed. Do not get an S if you care about having good graphics. It simply does not have the power output it should for the price of the console. The ONE X is actually much better graphically than the S without the NVMe storage for load speeds. The games that are at 120hz honestly look like Xbox 360 titles downsampled to 720P and even 480. Look the GPU specs up for yourself. The series X is worth way more than the price gap between the two. Get the series X! Trust me.. I have both and a one X!

Since owning the Series S I can’t honestly say it’s a great way to stay current in the gaming hobby. You get to play the latest games with minimal loss in graphical fidelity. Takes up very little space, with a brilliant simple design, it stays quiet while dispensing heat effectively from his huge black vent. Adding RetroArch in Dev Mode makes the Series S a fantastic emulation box as well, playing games up to GameCube and PS2. An easy recommendation to those on a budget. You won’t get this price to performance ratio anywhere else.
