A Very Clear Winner
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Powerful! Upgraded from the OG Xbox One (2015); to say the least, this is it, fam. The fan is ever silent, I can't even tell if it's spinning or not, but I'm sure it is. It doesn't get hot at all, even after hours of playing. Aesthetically, at first, I will admit, I found it a little awkward. However, the fact that its dimensions are actually a little less than 12x6x6in^3 (HxLxW), makes the tower design rather pleasing. The updated controller is actually really comfortable to use, too! It's very grippy, and the material used for the body is even used for the bumpers, triggers, AND D-pad. Oh, and also, the updated D-pad design is SUPER satisfying to use, and provides both a great responsive feel and aids in making your button inputs so much more precise. The power brick is finally a thing of the past! However, I'm not sure if the design and hardware engineers were able to integrate a safety feature into the system itself to protect against sudden power loss/surge, so be sure to use a power strip that offers that type of safety feature (just as a precautionary measure to take care of your console). My ONE issue with this console is that you won't actually get the full 1 terabyte (TB) of SSD storage as advertised, which is not surprising. The system software itself is stored into the hard disk and takes up about 222 gigabytes (GBs) of your 1TB (1024GB), so you'll only have 802.0GB of free space left for your games. In this day and age, 802GB is NOT enough for a complete library of games, considering most AAA games now ship around the 50-75GB range, and eventual, future updates for your games only means you will have less and less space for the games you'd want to install onto your local drive. This is unfortunate, but it is the reality. Thankfully, this console is designed to accommodate for expanding your internal storage, so I would highly recommend the purchasing of additional SSD-type storage that is compatible with this Xbox. 1 additional TB of SSD storage should suffice. Please be sure to do further research on the subject before making that purchase. Overall performance, however, is AMAZING. This console provides the best experience in console gaming of this new generation, and the loading times (thanks to the switch from HDD to SSD and better hardware optimization) have been reduced to you barely being even able to open your phone in time to look at Reddit/Twitter, or whatever to pass the time. However, please be sure that you own a TV/monitor that will allow you to take full advantage of this console's performance/graphical capabilities. (More research is required on TV specifications for an optimal experience.) The way Microsoft has handled the launch of this system makes the console extremely consumer-friendly, and you can be sure that you will be getting the best "bang for your buck" by choosing Xbox over its competitors. That being said, although this console is $500, it definitely lives up to its promise, and, to date, I do not feel, nor have I felt, disappointed by my purchase. New gamers will absolutely love this console, and returning gamers can be assured that this machine lives up to the hype. Happy playing!

The new generation in console gaming
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When available, both the series s and x offer a fantastic gaming experience. If you're an xbox veteran, you'll already be familiar with the layout of the user interface. Gamepass ultimate is also a no brainer for either console; especially the s since it's digital. It's been a long time since the quality of panel (tv/monitor) played a pivotal role in the gaming experience. This console really benefits from a true HDMI 2.1 source to unlock 4k/120FPS in games that support it. But in reality, even having 4K/60FPS in a console as compact and efficient as this is amazing on it's own. It's not as future proof as current PC (at time of release even) components, but we're also seeing components being stretched longer and longer for longevity, so having one of these will hold in my opinion, as long as the previous generation. I do hate that the storage expansion is proprietary for Series S/X enhanced games, and THE CONTROLLER STILL USE AA BATTERIES IN THE YEAR 2021/2022 but there are options for those at least. Find a discount SSD for your One X/360/OG Xbox games and let the main console storage work for Series X games whenever possible. For those not in the know, the components are AMD based. I believe zen 2 and rdna 2 graphics. Again, not as strong as their independent parts, but solid performance and consistent frames is what these are for, and they're darn good at it. Are these expensive? Yeah. But It beats trying to build a comparable PC at 2-3x the cost. If you can get the all access bundle, it's worth the credit application. If you can get a standalone and use bestbuy credit, also worth it. IF your only option is buying a bloated bundle, hopefully they include games you wanted to play. And finally, if it's a ps5/series x conversation, it's really a toss up for me. I'm fortunate to own both. What you're paying for, is user interface, size, and exclusives. Gamepass is a solid win for xbox. Sony's console is large, awkward (but I dig it) and the interface, while similar to ps4, does take a bit getting used to. The PS5 controller feels better in my hands and they're USB-C rechargeable controllers. If I had to choose one, it would be whichever has exclusive games (and if I have a back logged library) that interest me. If you're a gamer who plays any multi console release, either console when available will suffice. If you're an exclusives person, then you probably already know.

Next Gen is Real
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My last Xbox experience was on my brother's 360. Skipped the One. I've had a driving itch for a very long time, so the prospect of playing Forza Horizon 4 and setting myself up for future Forza titles was my main motivation to get a hold of a Series X. From the unboxing to finally firing it up, this is a quality experience. Easily retrieved my dusty old Gamertag, set up my avatar, set up all my streaming services, customized my settings, and got right to the business of gaming. If there is anything I must say about the Series X, it's that it is a remarkably swift piece of hardware. Coming from a PS4 Pro, it is a night and day difference. By the time I could turn on my Pro and get to the XMB, I'm already gaming on the Xbox. The console comes on from a cold boot almost instantaneously with the oddly slow startup of a handful of seconds every so often. Even the streaming apps perform in a much smoother fashion than on last gen hardware. The real shining point of the experience is the Quick Resume function. It's enough that the hardware is incredibly swift in every respect, but with Quick Resume, your games are suspended in the background even when the console doesn't have power running through it (I make it a habit of cutting of my surge protector when I'm not using anything, so I've seen this in action on a regular basis over stretches of several days). Not just a single game either. I have Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 4 constantly suspended and I can quickly switch between both games. They don't have to start up and perform an initial load. They drop me right back into the point where I left off as if I never stopped playing them at all. A typical day on my Xbox is doing some racing in Forza, instantly switching to Sunset for some ridiculous action, hopping out to a streaming app for a comedy special, and back to Forza to finish my session. The gaming experience itself is also virtually zero latency. Last gen, I developed some subconscious habits to pass the time during loading. Take a sip or two of water. Check my phone. Something simple that takes a few seconds to a minute that has become muscle memory at this point. With the Series X, that time is non-existent. I am routinely caught off guard by what appears to be a loading screen only to be dropped right back into the game a second later. This manifests as reaching for a water bottle only to stop midway to get back on my controller or reaching for the phone only to sit right back on the couch to continue gaming. If there is an easy way to describe the experience with the Series X, it's that it creates a much closer relationship between the gamer and their games. The desire to game is almost instantly met by the act of doing so. Rock solid piece of hardware. Would highly recommend. Looking forward to the future of games on this console, especially The Ascent.

Great gaming console for any gamer!
|Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This a console that transcends the previous. I mean, it is insane. For the price you can run almost everything at 4k 120fps (of course limited to a few titles that don't have those capabilities or monitors/TVs that aren't able to display that). It's completely silent compared to Xbox One S. It runs amazing and doesn't have many draw backs. The only thing that is worthy of complaint is the fact that it doesn't have much storage. 1tb is really closer to about 800 gigs. But, I bought the 2tb memory card, and that gave me a lot of space for games. I would recommend for anyone who wants to start playing games for a cheaper price than most gaming computers that are equal to its performance (of course, if you're planning to play mostly cross-platform fps games or Xbox exclusives). The one thing I would recommend besides the console is to grab an after market controller that has hall effect sticks so you don't get drift. Other than that, if you take care of your controller, it'll last a couple years.
