Big Upgrade Over Xbox One Original

I am a previous customer coming from the Xbox One, which means I went from the worst console (it's the first one) to the best console, so this review is from that point of view. First, a few bad things. The system only comes with what you need to get connected and get started. There are no free games inside the box or codes for Xbox Live or Game Pass Ultimate, only the console, controller with batteries, power cable, and a 4K capable HDMI cable. When you sign into the internet it will prompt you to spend a dollar for one month of Game Pass Ultimate. You won't even get a cable to connect your controller to the USB port on the console in case you need to update the controller. I'm not sure if this is needed or not though, as I haven't tried it. It requires a USB-C to connect it, so that small round connector, not the micro like the older model One controller has. This also means you get no headset with it, so if you want to talk to other players in a game, that's more money out of your pocket. I suppose they want you to use the Xbox App on your phone to chat in parties, and that can be spotty. The HDD only has 800 GB of size because the other 200 GB is taken up by the operating system. One of my largest games is over 100 GB so this can be an issue if you want to store a lot of games on the HDD, and if you want to play any Series X/S games (like The Medium is exclusively Series X/S) then you must store them on the internal HDD. There is a 200 dollar mini drive that you can plug into the expansion port, but it really shouldn't be needed. That said, onto the good. That HDD is a Solid State Drive, or SSD. It doesn't use the platters and seeking of a conventional HDD so load times are much faster than usual, and the system is designed around this drive. Load times are MUCH improved as I have played Forza Horizon 4 on both consoles. Going from 1080p 30 frames per second with load times ranging from 30 seconds to 1 minute or more, to 4k 60 fps and load times in mere seconds was a staggering upgrade that I was not expecting. The fast loading times result in a quality of life upgrade where you are not waiting as long to enjoy your games. Even my external 5 TB HDD that isn't a SSD has improved loading times, so that's a nice bonus. That mini drive is also a SSD so you can get an extra TB of space if you feel you need it. Right now though, everything is fine, and I just keep the games that are upgraded to Series S/X on the internal. Another positive is that Microsoft understood there was problems with the world, so they decided to let us use our older Xbox One products on the new console. So I have not used my new controller at all. However, I do notice the added features compared to the older controller. The d-pad is a shield rather than a standard D-pad. Your mileage may vary, but I haven't used the Elite controller myself, so it's not a deal breaker at all. The triggers are curved a bit more outward and have little bumps on them to allow for more grip over the more slick and less pronounced triggers on the older controllers. Might take some getting used to. It also has a share button that is in the center that we didn't have on the older controller. Press to take a screenshot and hold to start recording. You might have to set up the recording ahead of time, or it may default to 30 second clips, I do not know. Also, you will have to invest in a new model play and charge kit, as the older one uses the USB Micro, and the newer one uses USB-C, so they are not compatible. Personally, I like my older controller with the Chat Pad attached to it, plus I already have a headset I can use with it. At least the new controller has a plug that accepts the standard headset plug, but I am not sure if you need a stereo mixer to use any sound and chat headsets. I have one of those too that my chat pad interfaces with, but I rarely use it as I prefer to use my sound bar and be able to hear things around me over being completely immersed in my game. Then again, I don't play any Battle Royale or serious games that require 110% of my attention. Oh, and for those who are looking for a controller to use with your older One, since they don't make the One controllers anymore (you are probably not reading this for that though) you can use the newer controllers with the older console, they work just fine. I would like to have a new chat pad for the newer controller, but I think they really want us to message through the app instead, so that may not happen. I had to wait several months before I did manage to get my hands on this new console, due to supply and demand of this current time. I had actually decided to wait and hope that they were going to become more available over time, but that became difficult. I had a chance to get one over 2 months ago from this purchase because Best Buy had some they had released, but I decided to wait. Then a friend of mine's One's power brick failed and he had to way to play anything. That got me to thinking, I should get one sooner rather than later because of lack of availability. So I started to camp the Best Buy site and check in to try to get one. They were most likely in stock much sooner than I managed to get one, but I work almost every day, so when I would check the site they were sold out most days. The process took a bit longer than usual because they were slowly releasing stock, but overall since I was paying attention, I managed to secure one. I picked it up at the store less than a week later. If anything happens, I still have my older console to fall back on since it still works. Personally, if I could of walked into any store that stocked these consoles and bought one any day of the week, I would not of gotten one now. It is a full on upgrade to my console, and was worth it, but I do feel it isn't a NEEDED upgrade RIGHT NOW. If you can get one, then by all means, I would definitely look into getting one, but if you would have to put yourself through a situation to get one, it is fine to wait, especially if you have a Xbox One X. They don't make those anymore. I also haven't had any performance problems with my Series X, as there were quite a few reviews on here that have problems with it not working after a couple of days. I have a good amount of airflow around my console though. Overall though, I feel that this system is a huge improvement over the original Xbox One system. It doesn't come with anything in the standard box, unless you buy a Best Buy assembled bundle (Xbox Series X + Forza Horizon 5 for example) but if you get Game Pass Ultimate which is first month's a dollar then months after that are 15 dollars a month, that is still a very good value. I'd also wish it came with a headset, but that's the price of business these days I suppose.

Fast, crisp, and well the money. Night and day difference vs the Xbox one X. Plays very clean on a nice monitor setup if your competitive with online gaming. Or blow up that 4K resolution on the big screen for story based games!

This is the most fun I've had with an Xbox since the 360. The console is completely silent and super fast. Quick resume is the best feature of the device. I'm having a blast playing through the old Halo games.

    XSX vs PS5

Love the system and the OS, the controller is solid too. Only issue is lack of exclusive games, I own a PS5 as well and it just doesn’t add variety. Get one or the other and then a Nintendo system for those types of games and you’re covered.

After surprising my son with this new XBOX which he was super excited and immediately put it all together. He had an old XBox One that I bought him almost 10 yrs ago so he got his use out of it and it was refurbished from BB as well. After playing on it initially, he discovered he was unable to connect his account to get all of his data. After some not-so-good experiences with the Geek Squad and no real help from Microsoft, we ended up returning it and getting another one and it works perfectly, my son is enjoying his new console.

My first video game console was a wood-trimmed Pong machine. Then an Atari 5200. As the years and gaming continued, I’ve owned many devices and played hundreds of games, but none bring as much joy as this current generation of the Xbox. From the ease of continuing right where I left off in a game, to the amazing value of GamePass, the cost-benefit analysis of $ for amount of hours of fun entertainment makes this an easy recommendation. Also, the Xbox controller is easily my favorite. Until a Holodeck is invented, this is the next best thing.

The Xbox console released in 2020 stands as one of the most remarkable gaming consoles ever produced. It boasts impressive capabilities, including support for up to 4K 120 FPS gaming. While it may not be a native 4K console, its performance is still exceptional. This console represents a significant achievement for Xbox, solidifying its position as a leading force in the gaming industry.

I love this Xbox I got it specifically for SPACE MARINE 2 and it runs the game much better then my series S did. Now I just need to upgrade my TV or get a monitor because I want to get the best out of the 4k 120fps the series X offers. I love this Xbox it is my baby!
