XBC2 has a strong JRPG background with a few western RPG "open world" elements. There's a high focus on micromanagement, but if that kind of thing drives you wild (I admit, it's one of my less favorite parts of the game) it's easy to ignore (just update once a chapter to avoid getting too out of date). The difficulty is moderate with a few randomly challenging battles. It's a quite easy recommendation given that the overall RPG offerings on the switch are narrow — after BOTW and Skyrim, this is easily the third best game to scratch that itch. There are more JRPG elements than either of those games, but enough of an open-world side-quest vibe that you can easily allow the game to feel non-linear in style, even though there's always a clear main quest progression. If there were a plethora of other RPGs on the switch — I'm looking at you, Divinity Original Sin II — this might be a more qualified recommendation, but right now, if you like RPGs, and you're craving something with an open world flavor, this is my personal favorite after the aforementioned BOTW and Skyrim. (Ys VIII is great too, but having played both, I think this is the winner.)

If you want a great JRPG, look no further. Long hours, great storyline.

I have been gaming for decades and have set FFVII on a benchmark for being the best RPG I’ve ever played. This game come in a close second, maybe even tied. The amount of content in this game is unbelievable. The battle system is very unique and adds a new twist to the genre. I highly recommend this game to any RPG fan, or those who may just be getting into them.

This is my first time getting into the Xenoblade Chronicles series. I have to admit that I do like a lot of the stuff this game has to offer. There are some disappointments too but that's coming from playing Zelda twice now and coming to this game. This game's graphics are good but not as great as Zelda's graphics. The developers could have spent more time working on the graphics portion of the game making sure the visuals didn't look as blocky at some points and making sure the voices match the lip movements of the characters. If you can look past these things and a few other minor details, you will start to like this game and the combat mechanics. The combat mechanics were a struggle to get used to after playing Zelda but I eventually got into it and liked it a lot. I am still playing this game and I am halfway through the game. I can't really tell you how long the game is since there really is no pause button for the time clock so I've accrued almost 100 hours on this game from leaving my console on during the night. The plot is really interesting for the most part and has some funny moments sprinkled in there. I am looking forward to seeing the end of the game.

Great story, nice character work! If you need an itch for an rpg after playing Zelda, this should be the next game to jump into!

This game so far is great. It’s very huge and keeps getting better.

Needs some time before it kicks in to high gear but it's worth it.

Definitely recommended, going to be playing this for days to come.
