Customers are saying

Customers are overwhelmingly positive about Yakuza 0's gameplay, story, and the sheer amount of content, including side quests and mini-games. Many appreciate the unique fighting styles and the immersive Japanese-inspired open world. However, some players expressed minor concerns regarding the subtitles and controls, while others found the frequency of cutscenes to be excessive. Overall, the positive feedback on the core gameplay loop significantly outweighs the negative comments.

Amazing start to the Yakuza series

I don't know how I missed checking out the Yakuza series, especially since I love SEGA games. I'm actually pretty glad I checked out the series right as Yakuza 0 came out. This game is the perfect entrance to the series. Playing as two different characters was a great addition to this game, compared to only being able to play as Kiryu in the rest of them, except Yakuza 3. The game engine is smooth, controlling your character is very easy. I played almost every day for 2 weeks and I was barely halfway done with the main story. There's endless hours of mini-games in Yakuza 0; including a cabaret club simulator, real estate simulator, karaoke, darts, pool, bowling, dancing, and you can play the full versions of SEGA arcade classics Outrun and Space Harrier. Even with all that, there's tons of sub-stories that will have you laughing. The main storyline is very dramatic, brutal, mind-bending, and full of badassery. You'll love every character and their individual personalities. The music is also amazing. It'll keep you engaged. I definitely recommend Yakuza 0 to anyone who wants to play a well-polished free roaming action adventure game and would like to start playing the rest of the series. Now that Yakuza 6 is about to release, you'll have 6 games in between, not including the zombie spinoff, to keep you occupied and entertained for hours.

One of the worst games I have ever played. Story scenes take way too long to get to playing with no option to skip. The "action" is similar to the 90's street fighter games. This was almost worse than Star Wars BattleFront. Both games mentioned I returned for the 5-6 dollars that I received for sell back. I would have taken nothing just didn't want it taking up space next to my good games.

Explore a portion of Tokyo as you follow Kazuma Kiryu, a yakuza who has been framed for murder. Combat is brutal and awesome. There's tons of little side quests to do that just pop up as you're walking around town. There's also lots of mini games like Karaoke, and bowling, and batting practice. The 80's theme of the game really comes off well and makes for a fun period piece game.

A Good Start to a Great Series

To anyone interested in playing the Yakuza series, this is a good start, because it shows most of what makes the series great. The combat is a 3D brawler with an upgrade system and different styles for the 2 playable characters, the controls are responsive. The story is the other big draw, it does a good job of portraying the excess of 1980s Japan, with the main drive being a plot of land that due to the insane build up of real estate is part of a massive multi-million dollar deal, as well as the seeder aspect of that time.

Best Yakuza game, great storyline and gameplay

Yakuza 0 was my Game of the Year 2017, beating out the game I had been anticipating for years, Persona 5. The story of Yakuza 0 is very well written for a video game, and was one of the main hooks that kept me on the edge of my seat. I don't want to spoil anything honestly, but put vaguely, it's a crime drama with murder and money involved. The gameplay is an evolution of previous games in the series, with beat em up style gameplay. This time, you can switch between styles to alter your moveset. The music in the game is awesome, and the side quests are unrivaled in gaming. Seriously, the side quests are very involved and not fetch quests. Highly recommend to anyone who is interested in Japan, the crime genre, or beat em ups.

Great introduction to the story of Yakuza

This was my first Yakuza game. I have heard about this series for quite a long time and I figured I'd give it a try. Boy was I not disappointed. The story of Kiryu and Majima San is beautifully explored in this lengthy prequel. There is so much to do from mini games to straight up brawling. If you played old school Sega brawlers like Streets of Rage you'll be right at home. The voice acting, animations and story line are all top notch and I massively enjoyed all aspects of this game. Since it is laying the backstory down of the two main characters it is a great jumping off point to introduce yourself to the series.

80 hours of bone crunching gameplay with a great story, tons of side activities including bowling, darts, baseball, casino games, and more! Hate GTA but want open world gameplay? Yakuza is for you.

Newcomer to the series and blown away

Unlike most open-world games filled with bloat inside of an overly large overworld, Yakuza 0 presents a contained and well designed beat'em up with silly optional content that is actually fun to engage in. It is essentially a 3D brawler inside of old school PlayStation RPG. Along with loads of silly sub-stories that never fail to entertain and an intriguing melodrama as its narrative core, Yakuza 0 is an addictive beat'em up RPG that any gamer would do well to pick up.

Not as ridiculously good as most are claiming. It's fun, but it's not even the best of the series, never mind the greatest game of all time or anything.
