Next Gen Lock - Solid & Secure

I've tried "smart locks" over the years. The early generations were not good with offering a long lifespan or a solution for extreme weather. This next Yale generation of locks seems to be an improvement on past generations. We needed a new deadbolt lock for an exterior door which gets a lot of use. We decided to try the Yale Assure Lock 2. We live in Arizona where the extreme heat (115+ degrees) and tremendous amount of dust in the air are a problem we have to live with every summer. We like the construction of the Yale lock. It is solid and the keypad features a housing that is resistant to dust and debris flying through the air. The installation process was easy and quick. Both the instructions that came with the lock along with online videos of the installation process were informative. I had the lock up and running within 15 minutes of taking it out of the box. The mechanism seems solid and secure. Time will tell if the lock will hold up to years of extreme heat in the desert, but our initial impression of this lock is very positive.

I wanted a keyless deadbolt with physical buttons that I could control with my phone and this was one of the few options. Ill be curious to see how long the batteries last with the wifi module. I had it professionally installed since the door did not have a prior deadbolt on it. The physical installation was fine but getting it set up in the app was where the pain points came in. The app is not intuitive to use, the lock settings are confusing, and it kept erroring out while the installer was trying to set it up. I eventually told the guy to leave and I would take care of it later. It took me a couple hours of messing with it to finally get it set up in the app. I still havent been able to get the door sensor to work. It is installed to a tee for how the instructions say it needs to be installed. I have calibrated it probably 10 times now and it never works. It always says the door is closed. Ive given up on that and dont really care anymore. I also cannot get it connected to Homekit. It says my lock is already part of another home in Homekit. Ive looked all over my Homekit setup and do not see any Yale lock to remove from my home. I need to contact support to see if they can help since I haven't found a forum with instructions on how to resolve that. It looks really good though very sleek. It’s ok but I expected more from it honestly.

    ME and Battery issues

overall a good lock, but there are some sharp edges inside that might cut you during installation, the "Yale Assure Lock SL with Matter" has a better mechanical design. apple home key and buttons unlock has been reliable, however the battery is not. With wi-fi module inserted, this only last 2 ~ 3 weeks. without the module it can last months with Apple Home. If they fix the battery issue, then i will give this a 4 stars

Cheaply made. Purchased mar2023, batteries stopped working may2024. Asked a replacement, was told it was out of warranty. Do not buy this cheap product. They are the worst.
