Installation was quick and easy. (I used the BILT app for better step by step visuals while installing.) I have had no trouble with the August app for setting up passcodes for myself and guests (including temporary codes!), using remote lock and unlock, setting up connection with my Google home, and checking lock status. Because of the weather stripping I have for that door, I need to hold the door tight when locking and unlocking (as I did with my manual deadbolt), so I have yet to use the auto-lock and auto-unlock features. Within a week of owning this lock, there was one occasion during which the lock was completely non-responsive with no obvious reason. The touch screen would not light up and app could not detect the lock. Fortunately, there are multiple keyed entrances to my house, so this fluke did not leave me locked out. From inside the house, I removed a battery and replaced it to reset the lock and have not had any trouble since that incident. I am not sure if these flukes are common (maybe in very cold weather?) or just a rare exception to normal functionality, but I will post an update if there are any future incidents. Pros: Easy installation, convenient app, permanent and temporary codes or access via August app for guests, stylish design Cons: Some small chance of getting locked out if there is no backup plan

After 6 months of researching smart locks I chose the Yale Assure SL to test on our home before buying for our business. The locks were on sale so I bought two and decided to open and install only one. If I didn’t like the lock I could return the second one unopened. I removed the old deadbolt and discovered I needed to enlarge the hole to 2-1/8” in the door to fit the smart lock. A trip to the hardware store to buy a kit with a door lock jig and two hole saws took longer than the few minutes it took to mark and cut the new hole in the door and extend the deadbolt latch hole in the door frame. A few minutes later the lock was installed and ready to set up. Some reviewers had complained the written setup instructions were wrong. I was happily surprised when, after carefully following the accompanying written instructions, which I verified by viewing the Yale lock app setup instructions, the setup went smoothly. The lock works great as advertised! I will be installing the second lock for our business.

    HomeKit does not reliably work

I bought this lock for integration into Apple HomeKit so I could use Siri and Automation. The lock itself works well if not using the smart features (HomeKit). The minute you connect it to HomeKit it turns into a trainwreck. The first HomeKit module that came with the lock did not work. Called support and they told me they would send a replace as the HomeKit module was bad. After a week and a half I contacted support again and the replacement was never sent. it tool almost 3 weeks to get the replacement. When I set up the replacement it was buggy/challenging and then wiped out my entire Apple Home set up. All my Hue lights, SmartPlugs, Garage Door were wiped out by this lock- so frustrating!!! When I finally got everything set up again after a week, the LOCK STILL DOES NOT WORK. It randomly unlocks the door whenever it wants (middle of night, afternoon when we are not home). This product is so bad and their support is also bad.

Convenient Lock for HomeKit, some setup issues

I did not have an existing deadbolt, so before I installed this one, I put the product together, not on a door, to make sure it would work as I expected. It did so I then did the handyman work on the door of drilling holes, etc. After installing the lock, I went through the process of resetting the lock so I could go through its initial calibration. That part went ok. But when it got to inserting the WIFI card to connect to wifi for HomeKit, I couldn't get it to connect to wifi again. I went through a series of resetting, setup, inserting/removing the wifi card. It took a combination of changing the order of each step to make it work correctly. So that part was annoying. But probably if I never set it up before I actually installed it, I could have avoided the problem. Now it works great. No issues with it not responding or disconnecting. It doesn't work instantaneously when sending the command to lock/unlock. I've had various results. Usually between 5 and 30 seconds. Overall I like it and would recommend it.

The lock knows when I'm arriving home through my cell phone location and the door automaically unlocks. In return, if you forget to lock the door on your way out, the lock automatically locks itself using your phone location. If you're comfy watching TV in the living room or your own bedroom you can ask alexa to unlock the door or you can use the app to unlock the door. You can also have temporary unique codes for many different people that they may have access to. You can always disable any code you'd like. The app also allows you to see if the door is locked, unlocked, left open or closed. The app and the lock are both very easy to use. Great device! It would also be a super nice gift for anyone. I would definitely like to give this as a gift for my dad on his birthday, but the price is a little high, so I just need to start saving.

I love the functionality of this deadbolt. It is nice having it tied to HomeKit as it unlocks as soon as I pull in the driveway and locks automatically after a few minutes. The keypad is also great. My 3 year old daughter loves running up to the door so she can put her code in. It’s also nice that I can program more codes than I will ever need remotely. Comes in handy when we have house guest who need the code. I can set them a temporary code of their choosing so they don’t have to try to remember our code. Plus, it’s nice that only my immediate family has the main code. Setup is a breeze. No more difficult than installing a standard deadbolt. One thing of note: take a picture of the HomeKit “code” printed on the WiFi module (orange thing). Makes it easier to link to your HomeKit if you don’t have to remove the cover.

Really happy with the product. I cannot speak about the installation because I spent the extra money to have Geek Squad install it for me. I’m just not a woman who knows her way around with a drill. Installation took about 30-45 minutes and then we programmed my phone and the security codes. I love it. One of the beat features is that you can program a code for someone for a specific day and timeframe so that it cannot be used any other time. So if you have your cleaning lady coming or if you are renting like Air Bnb, you can do the same. It’s very cool. I really think they did a great job with this and the technology. I can open it with my phone via the app or with the iPhone Home app. Or you can use a code pre-programmed. Highly recommend. It looks pretty nice as well. I feel safe between my Ring doorbell and my Yale Assure Smart doorlock.

    Awesome Keypad Door Lock

I have some experience with various electronic keypad locks and this one is quite possibly my favorite. It’s really clean in appearance and the touch pad is on point. It has sound which I didn’t expect to be something I’d like but it’s actually awesome. I find it especially useful hearing and knowing the door is locked when someone else locks the door behind you. The only two things I find to be a significant downfall is: the deadbolt itself feels kinda cheesy. I have no doubt it’s secure but It definitely could be better and the inside switch to lock and unlock the door also feels cheesy. It’s like a cheap plastic and after owning several Schlage keypads and door locks it definitely leaves something to be desired. For the price there’s some quality aspects that could be improved but I am overall very satisfied.

I love this product! When doing research between the Nest x Yale Lock and the Yale Lock there were two things that made my decision justifiable: the price was nearly $100 less and it supported Apple HomeKit. Programming was simple. I established permanent and temporary codes as needed. I was able to remove codes with ease. It does take a little getting used to with the button pressing but after 10 minutes you should be alright. I love having this smart lock because my alternate keys are either my iPhone, Apple Watch, or iPad. When I pull up to my house and tell my Apple Watch to “unlock the front door” I always think about how far we have come technologically.

I really liked the lock design. I needed a lock I could access anywhere from my phone. Both store rep and Yale support said this would work for my needs with my phone. It worked great through the Bluetooth app but not via WiFi. I called Yale they said I needed a ZWave module. I bought that and still no access. Called Yale again, the said to get a Vera Controller. I bought that and still no access. I called Vera support to be informed that this model Yale lock was not yet on their compatibility list. I returned the Yale lock and ordered a different brand. I would recommend for Bluetooth use only.

Can’t connect to HomeKit and bad customer support

After a few months the lock stopped connecting to HomeKit and it was draining the batteries. I put in new batteries and the batteries went dead after two days. I had to pull out the wireless module. The worse part is that Yale customer support is absolutely terrible. It’s been almost 2 months and they haven’t sent me a replacement module. I have many smart devices and many of them of had problems but at least the companies that built them provided great customer service and fixed the issues promptly. Yale customer support is by far the worst I’ve encountered.

My husband and I bought this lock in Feb. 2018 and the batteries have died not once, not twice, but FIVE TIMES since we installed it! Since the lock doesn’t have a place to insert a key, you have to have a special battery to hold to the lock to open the door so you can get inside to change the batteries. We found this out after being locked out and our dog was stuck inside until we ran to the store and purchased the special battery to open the door. Awful! Barely 1 year old.

The lock looks good. Installs easily. The app however does not work. Called Yale. They advised the app is not working. Advised it had not been working for several days and could provide no time frame for it to be working. So the statement on the box “Unlock your door with your iPhone” is incorrect. Their app does. Ot it work. They advised that Best Buy should be called for the warranty work. Will avoid a Yale brand lock the next time. False advertising on the part of Yale.

They sold this item in both Apple Store and Best Buy. I had the assumption that this item would have more functionality being that it was the only smart lock sold at Apple but... Best Buy actually had a better price + warranty so... I got it at BB. I installed the lock, hooked it up to my phone.... unfortunately its limited to only bluetooth. You can't check to see if its locked while you're out and about, nor unlock it through your phone to let someone while away although I'm pretty sure it says you can on the box.

The install onto the door was very simple as well as setting up our 4 digit passcode. However, the longest and most frustrating part of this install was getting it to connect to our iPhones. The instructions provided failed on our iPhones as well as multiple youtube tutorials. By chance, we were able to connect it to the Apple Home app. Ultimately we got it working, but it shouldn't have been so complicated.

Was kind of nervous going to a keyless door lock! It's nice that Yale gives you an option to open the door with a 9v battery, if your, in lock batteries die. Easy to install! One thing that you should know! If you have 2 or more of these locks like I do, you cannot use their app to unlock/lock more than one of them. You have to use a second party app like apple home. The second one just will not connect. Contacting their service for help was some what horrid, but got the job done

I really like this lock. I love not having to have a key and being able to lock with a swipe of my hand on the panel and it locks. The Auto Unlock feature is fantastic. When I get home and walk up to the door it unlocks automatically. It's also nice to have separate codes for people so I know who is unlocking the door. Really happy with the lock, and the August app works great and has some nice features.

I just moved and always liked the idea of having a deadbolt with a keypad. I give my close friends and family their own codes so I don't have to worry about giving out a key. It's easy to install and works like a charm. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars is because when you add codes you can't assign names to them and you can only have remote access to this lock if you have a HomeKit hub like a new AppleTV.

This is my second keyless combo entry lock. The first I had to take back. This works great after installation and app download. The instructions did not include how you invite other members of the household to access the app and control it from their phone. It automatically downloads it to the Home App which we did not know. That's where you invite other users. After you figure that out, it works great especially when Siri opens and locks the door for you.

Easy to install. The turn knob is easy to use and better looking than the tuna can from another model. It’s also great to not have to manage a key. There are options for a code, use your fingers, or your phone app for unlocking or locking the door. We were on the other side of the world and received a notification that our door was locked. This works easily with the Apple Home Kit.
