The Next Generation of Front Doors!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Yale Assure Deadbolt is a great way to keep your home secure, while at the same time adding convenience and access. Imagine needing to let a service person or friend in to your house when you can't be there. You can either give them their own security code to unlock the door whenever they need to, or you can unlock it remotely. The installation was quick and easy, taking only a few minutes longer than a standard deadbolt installation. The extra time is only due to programming the lock, which only takes a few minutes. Auto Unlock is a very cool features that detects when you arrive home, using your cell phone's location. This means you never have to fumble with keys, or even a key code, ever again. You can also use the app to check the status of your door, so no more trips back home just to make sure you locked the front door. The only downside to this deadbolt is that it would be nice if it came with a matching handle, so I wouldn't have to make a trip to a different store to pick one up. One stop shopping would be nice.

Beware! Lock stops working after only a few months
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only 2 months, lock stops working: key pad allowed to put in the PIN number but and just wouldn’t take the check mark key, calling customer service for help, they only called you back about 4 hours later, in the meantime you can’t use the lock, such a pain in the neck. Save yourself a headache. Don’t buy.

Best Lock Ever
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I bought my house 18 years ago, it came with a standard key lock. I replaced that with a biometric lock that opened with my fingerprint. Not great in the winter when wearing gloves or sweaty fingers in the summer. When it stopped working, the company replaced it with another one that now claimed to work with WiFi when you added a WiFi module. Unfortunately they never made one for that model. I then got the Yale/Nest lock which worked using an app on the iPhone but not with Siri or the Apple Watch so I could pull out the phone, swipe to open it, find the app and press it, then click on the little house icon and then when the next screen opened, I could press and hold for 3 seconds to finally open the door. What an ordeal. I found it simpler to just key in the combination on the touch screen of the lock to open the door. This Yale Assure Lock solves the problem. It has an Apple Watch app that when tapped opens the lock and is secure since the Apple Watch is linked to the iPhone. It could work with my Amazon Echo but I choose not to link it to that since someone would be able to open the door from the outside just by screaming "Alexa Open the Door". It also works with the Google Assistant but Google was smart and only allows the locking of the door, not opening it. I set up the lock using the best feature ever, geofencing. This lock uses WiFi to know when you and your phone have gone a certain distance from your home so the door remains locked but then uses Bluetooth to automatically unlock the door when you come back into Bluetooth range. I no longer have to mess with the app or the Apple Watch or be a primitive and use a key! If I was away and needed to open the door for someone, I could always use the August app or the Apple Watch app to open the lock remotely. The lock was simple to install since it was the same exact size as all previous locks. I watched the video that they prepared using the Built app that I had to install and that explained everything I needed to know about installing the lock and also a little module that connects adjacent to the lock to signal you if your door is left ajar after a set amount of time. My previous locks never had that feature so I needed information about that. This smart lock has made my smart home even smarter.

Automating the Deadbolt
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yale Real living wi-fi touch screen ----------------------------------- Whats in the box ---------------- 1. Yale Real Living Wi-Fi Touch Screen Deadbolt 2. User guide 3. Connected by August Controller 4. August Bridge - Wifi 5. 2 keys 6. 4 AA Batteries Pros ---- 1. Its beautiful & well built touch screen lock, period. 2. Works with my Samsung Smart things as it is Zigbee capable 3. Guest Access codes (Can setup to expire after a certain time) 4. Includes physical keys as well 5. Auto-unlock feature with the Bluetooth 6. Auto-lock feature when the door is closed. Cons ---- 1. Price, it is a little pricey as compared to competitors Review ------ SETUP This is a two step process. First is the hardware setup. The deadbolt is of the standard type, so this fill fit in the same opening on your door as the regular deadbolt without any modifications. you need to have ample real estate above the opening for the deadbolt to provide for the battery door on the deadbolt. Once the deadlock is turned on, it will ask you to enter the master key. Once the master key is enter, it will ask you to setup a user key. Now, download the august app and using the provided pass code you can set up the august app to work with the Yale lock. I also have Samsung smartthings and i was able to discover this device on my smart things app and it was very easy to setup. August app is very user friendly, it allows you to lock/unlock and setup pins for guest usage and also schedule the pin during a certain time after which the pin expires. Smart things and August app will tell you if the lock is locked/unlocked. There is also a Door Sense feature which i did not setup. USAGE This particular model has a physical key and hence it is a savior when the Yale lock runs out of battery. The battery is expected to last a year with regular use, hey but who remembers when the battery was changed last time.Good part is that the device will show you a low battery warning when the valid code is entered to unlock the deadbolt. I have not had a chance to test this feature. The best feature i like is the automatic unlock feature wherein the lock actually connects to my phone via Bluetooth to recognize that i am home and it unlocks it. I have been primarily using the August app to lock and unlock the door, monitor the activity on the door and allow guest access. I have not had an opportunity to setup the lock with alexa but dont see much of a use for it anyways and i perceive this feature as a security risk. Overall, i am very happy with the automated deadlock and its a nice addition to my existing array of zigbee/z-wave devices.

Looks amazing, wish mine worked.
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely terrible experience with this product. The touchscreen worked for maybe a month and then stopped working. Yale has sent me a replacement part for the front and back and those also wouldn’t work. It’s installed correctly. It sucks because this is by far the coolest looking smart lock with the most potential

Excellent Choice, Quality Lock
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been wanting a Smart-lock for quite some time but never found one that I really liked. When I got the opportunity to get this unit, I was all over it. Yale has been making locks for over 150 years and have a great reputation. I'm glad I made the decision. Out of the box there is the front and back of the lock, the tumbler, batteries, striker components, the August router and the door open/close (Door Defender) sensor. My first impression of the lock itself is that it is high quality. It's heavy (in a good way), solid and attractive. Tactile feedback is excellent. There is no doubt this is a quality unit. Physical installation was straight forward. My 17 year old son (under my supervision) had it physically installed in less than 15 minutes. So far, so good. Now it;s time to program the lock to the August router and associate our phones to the unit and get on the WiFi. We had to try several times but after about 25 minutes, and several false starts / re-sets, we finally got it going. While I'll admit this was frustrating, I'm not going to be able to lay the blame on the Yale lock. Too many variables. But end of the day, the end product that Yale delivered was worth the challenge. So by now, we have the lock installed, the apps on our phones, the router on the WiFi network and we are ready to go. Programming the lock was a breeze. Once programmed, using the lock could not be any more simple. Enter your code to lock or unlock and the digital key pad lights top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top depending on whether you lock or unlock. You can hear the lock engaging / disengaging but it is a comforting sound. Certainly not too loud, but loud enough to know the lock is working. A nice feature, if your door is just slightly not quite closed enough for the lock to engage, it will try 3 times and after the 3rd attempt it will audibly warn you that it was not able to lock. Additionally, the app will display that the door is ajar and NOT locked. A simple tug on the door and it will lock once you re-engage. Nice feature. While there are too many features to list, there are countless options for allowing access / codes to guests, vendors, trusted friends/family... There are also countless options to set timed access by day and time, temporary access, limited access, unlimited access.. Too many to list but the options are many and customizable. Hopefully helpful tip: We have 3 friends/neighbors who we all take care of the others houses while on vacation. I programmed my lock code to the codes that they use to get into their houses. So in an emergency, they would have easily memorable recall to get into my house. The app is great. Simple, clean, effective. You can control the lock from anywhere and see who and when opened / locked the unit and receive notifications when any action occurs that include when and who did what. Very nice. You can also program the lock to automatically open when you (and your phone) arrive at your home. My wife likes this option, but I prefer to have the manual control. Regardless, its a nice option. Another nice option is the "Door Defender" that tells you whether your door is open or closed. It requires boring a small hole in your door frame, but my 17 year old had it installed in less than 2 minutes. Very nice addition to the package that I would not have missed were it not included, but since it was, I now value it as a must have. End of the day, I rarely give 5 star reviews but this product clearly earns that distinction. Great product. Well done Yale and August. I would (and have) recommend to a friend. I am pleased to have this on my front door. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

Touch screen stopped working after 14 months
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked fine for awhile. Had issues with the auto lock only working sometimes, which was not ideal but okay. Just after the warranty period the touch screen stopped working. So basically we now have a $300 dead bolt. I would not recommend buying if the touch screen does not last, perhaps get a push button model.
