The one thing that upsets me about this receiver is that I can't listen to Bluetooth while at the same time use one of the HDMI ports to play a game or something. That's a poor design flaw if you ask me. If that could happen, I'd be able to share it with my roommate. At the same time, I was nicely surprised to find out this receiver has AM/FM radio.

This is a nice receiver however, having difficulty balancing the base. Overbearing at times.

The receiver works well but only has one optical audio and one 9mm port. More would be better.

I wish I could've given this more stars but unfortunately the product became defective after about a week. It would no longer allow my front right speaker to play and was quite an inconvenience seeing as I had to return it for a new one. Have had the new product for about a week now and seems to be working great thus far.

    easy set up

the set up was easy, bluetooth synced with my samsung phone, first time i used bluetooth, seems if im streaming from my phone i get out of line of sight or 40 ft away and the bluetooth has connectivity problems, i have no idea how far away speakers would work. everything is pretty straight forward, i easily put in my network password and that was it, but it could not see my external hard drives which is where most of my music is, that is huge, i bought this receiver to play my music just as much as for the home theater. the big knock on that is with all these decoders, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS Neo:6, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 i can not access which ones i use, the receiver does that for me, my old pioneer allowed me to change them as i please and some music sounds better over different decoders, with this receiver, all i can do is use their "sound fields" such as "music hall in munich", or all stereo or 2,0 stereo which just doesnt cut it, thats why this receiver is going back, along with the on screen display, if i am changing from cd to tv or network or blue ray, i have to go to options, which blacks out my screen except for a perfunctory list of "options" when i use the volume it does not show on my screen but displays on the receiver screen, when scrolling through the sound fields, they only show on the receiver, not the display i was looking for...btw it does have plenty of power, but very high treble, and the upscale made my dlp tv hooked up to direct tv much richer in color and sharper lines, but i would expect that from any receiver that upscales ...for the money, it is a decent receiver for people who might have a problem setting up, who would rather let the receiver choose what decoder to use and who dont listen much to music

I bought this in 2017 to replace a Denon receiver which died (prematurely). With the right cables, we've gotten excellent sound/visuals when streaming content and playing blu rays. Recently, we purchased a 4K TV and Blu Ray player. I was a bit concerned about a receiver this old playing the content, but when the Geek Squad delivered our TV they were able to use 4K HDMI cables to connect the 4K Blu Ray to the TV through the receiver using a "pass through" method (which the Yamaha manual described). The results have been wonderful. We watch a lot of Blu Rays and do a lot of streaming and the Yamaha keeps on performing with pleasing results. We are very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend the receiver.

Close to perfection - but Scenes are Lacking

    Posted .

The unit sounds awesome! - great DSP options that are very well sorted out regarding Reverb/Delay/Room Size. Pass Thru helps eliminate excessive cables. The only two things lacking are: 1) Ability to save Specific Speaker and EQ Settings into a given Scene (Yamaha's Live Sound Mixing Gear has this capability along with Presonus - and is a must for listening to a variety of Input Sources). 2) the AV Controller APP is fragmented regarding interface - half the functions are adjustable with settings viewed within the APP / the other half are not, and require reading the unit's tiny front display or TV Monitor - a minor hassle when listening to music from across the room and trying to make adjustments. These are easily resolved by modifying / updating Firmware - but unfortunately even the Higher Lines of Yamaha don't include these options. Their Live Sound Development Crew needs to spend a week in the AV Development room. Otherwise - this unit is a huge bang for the buck!!

    Great Receiver

With the 4 HDMI connections, I hooked up all my online devices. I also hooked up a blu ray disc player. I now can swing in My computer library into the receiver through ITunes, with or without the Apple TV Device. With Roku, I get Amazon Music, Sirius Music, Tune In music. Did I also say there are more apps on Roku to get even more music. Plus the device natively does online radio stations and Pandora. This is the best technology available now. I've got it hooked up to all Yamaha Ceiling speakers that I had and new woofer and center speaker. The programmed equalizer settings are easily changed, as well as moving from device to device. I would rebuy in an instant.

I'll keep this one short..... The sound quality is worse than the Onkyo TX-NR676 that I traded in for this Yamaha. I had distortion issues using the Onkyo as I increased the volume, but this Yamaha's sound quality was just horrible. Keep in mind that I'm using LARGE speakers and so far in my experience the Sony DH550's sound quality was better, The only positive thing I noticed was after a software update, the 4K upscale was available and the video quality of my PS4 was unbelievable! But with the upscale option on, my media center would not display any video at all so in order to get my PS4 and media center to display any video, I had to shut off the upscaling.

Bought this for the built in Wifi and Bluetooth. My old Pioneer was not connected and had external bluetooth adapter. The new Yamaha would not connect to my wifi router and could not get the MusicCast app to work. Sound through tuner setting was not as good as my 8 year old Pioneer receiver. Called support and hung up after being on hold for 60 minutes. Returning to BB today. What a waste of time and effort.

    Buyer Beware

I was prepared to like this product. Except when I tried to connect my iPhone X or iPad Pro by bluetooth to it. The music through the connection stutters, that makes it impossible to use. I called to complain and they mentioned something about a faulty Bluetooth chip. Can you imagine selling a product using bluetooth that does not work correctly with Apple products? By the way all of my other bluebooth connections work fine -- only the receiver doesn't! I will be returning the product. I also could not get MusicCast to install.
