I've had the unit for 3 weeks, the surround works for AM, FM. I finely found the internal program setting to make it work for TV. I am still unable to make it work for the DVD and Netflix. The Geek Squad were unwilling to help over the phone. Only wanted to send someone out for $ 200.00.

I hired someone to hook up my surround sounds and the sound quality wasn't what i expected. I switched from another brand name to purchase this one. Needless to say I will be returning it today.

I purchased a 65 inch Sony TV and Yamaha receiver. I still don't get sound when I turn the TV on. Best Buy installed but didn't send the HDMI cable with installers.

I own a Yamaha 1020 as my main, a 501 as my second, and now this 481 for the bedroom. Running a pair of Def Tech 350 monitors. Wi Fi, 40 locked in FM stations, USB files, Pandora. Hulu, and VUDU from my tv. YPAO mic set up, AV app on my windows phone, and the wifes Apple. Extra bass button. All the modern stuff. Replaced an old TEAC 100 WPC AVR that would rock, but the Yamaha has such clarity and just enough punch that it is like night and day. This 481 wont run with the 1020 or 501 but it is great for laying in bed and running it from my phone. Anyone looking for a unit in this price range you wont be dissapointed, has a sub out, internal EQ, sound modes, and you can bi amp the right set of speakers. Has all the options my 1020 has just less powerful version. Enjoy!

    What I wanted

This does everything I was looking for. Setup was easy, and sound is good. Net music channels are nice to have in addition to the Tuner. One problem I had with Bluetooth setup was addressed quickly by tech support chat . Now let's pick some nits. In spite of automatic setup, it would still be nice to have custom control of rear channels. There are no manual overrides of speaker balance, and not all sources are created equal. Another minor annoyance is the volume display. For some reason, it displays dB level in negative nummbers, so the smaller the number shown the LOUDER the volume. Takes some getting used to, and is unnecessary. No enough to take away a star, but small things you'll notice.

Purchased this to replace my Yamaha RX-V3900 as I needed a new receiver with 4K pass-through. This receiver has everything you need and more if you are using a 5.1 setup. It has both Wi-Fi and ethernet connection which is nice. Be aware it only has 4 HDMI inputs, so if you have more you will need to look elsewhere. Setup was easy and sound is just as good as my previous higher end Yamaha receiver.

I am very pleased with this yamaha receiver. My old speakers have come to life making music listening more enjoyable. The airplay feature was easy to setup and use. Also, voices now jump to the foreground and are easier to hear when watching movies and TV programming.

    Great receiver, one small issue

Great, basic receiver for those who want or need only 5.1. Has Airplay for those with iTunes and it works great. The iOS remote app is well thought out and works great. I've been buying Yamaha receivers for over 20 years. Build and quality have been consistent and still up to par. The only problem with this receiver is that the volume and program are overlaid onto the tv/monitor when they are changed, which is a huge distraction for me. I don't want to see the volume setting appear on the tv when I'm watching a movie and, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to turn that setting off as you can with other receivers. I can't convey just how much I hate that, but I suppose I'll get used to it and try to ignore it.

This was a replacement for our home theater receiver. It works fine with the cable, although we haven't been able to get it to sustain a wifi connection. Instructions are very poor. Having said that, it was a good buy.

Worked great. Bought open Box from Best Buy. Then exactly 35 days after buying it (just outside of returnable time) it won't turn on. Have to spend $50 for ubers just to take it to an authorized retailer for repair. This sucks.
