    Disappointing - Can't be a Yamaha product

I am a lifelong Yamaha consumer owning over the years dozens of various pieces of audio and video Yamaha equipment. This unit was purchased to replace an existing 10 year old Yamaha AV in a home theater setup. From the moment I turned the unit on it was a disaster. HDMI CEC errors, buggy with complete loss of video and audio. The HDMI eARC was again buggy, the software update process happened without warning, then the unit was acting erratically and was unusable. Reset of the hardware was performed, unit looked to work okay, then every issue it had returned. Listening to audio worked however the sound was very thin and lifeless. Then I did some reading online about these products from Yamaha. Oh dear. The entire unit looked cheap, had no mass to it, the display and buttons were also very poor, junky looking. The sound was very lacking in general. SO I put my original 10 year old Yamaha AV receiver back into service and the first you notice is the sound. It sounds MUCH better and it WORKS flawlessly. All the HDMI CEC functions work perfectly without delay or flaw. Yamaha has maybe taken a turn with new 'innovative' products like this one, designed by someone who is likely new to the industry without any understanding of the Yamaha brand. Yamaha should be ashamed to approve a poor product like this one for sale. It should be replaced with something that works and at least provides stability.

I was really disappointed in this receiver. First, it does look cool and that’s about it for good qualities. Getting past the obviousness that this still isn’t 120hz capable and probably won’t be, it is horrible. Even after updating, the receiver showed a black screen upon switching inputs. The only way to fix this was to turn the receiver off and back on again. Also, especially with my Xbox Series X, sometimes the screen would either just be green or the video would be centered and only take up about 1/5 of the screen. Again, turn it off “CLICK” and back on again “CLICK!!!!!” Every single time I turned this thing on it was issue after issue. Small annoyances could be overlooked, like the beyond annoying “CLICK” mentioned above when turning it on and trying to switch inputs (which were so much louder than any previous receiver I’ve ever had), but the video issues were too much to overcome so I returned the unit. It’s obvious Yamaha were in over their heads disingenuously shoehorning features into this thing in order to release it in time. It’s sad as I’ve always had great experiences with Yamaha products, from drums and hardware to audio products but this should not have been released in it’s current form.

Returned. I was running a 2 channel set up with plans to expand later. This receiver just didn't sound good with only 2 channels hooked up. I told the receiver which speakers were connected, but dialog was still not as clear as I wanted. Tried a Sonos Amp and had no problems with clarity using same speakers and same TV. Audio may be fine as a 5.1 system, just not great for a 2.0 system. Also had trouble running 4k. When my roku was connected to TV directly, no problems. When running to this receiver, I was occasionally getting blank screens. Or if I was getting a picture of was slightly washed out. Tried 3 different hdmi cables. Again, no problems when direct connection to TV, only when using the receiver as a switch.
