This thing doesn't sound all that great straight out of the box BUT tweak the setting a little bit and it sounds amazing! I've always been a huge Sony fan but needed a new amp that also has a phono input on it. Sony doesn't seem to include that anymore on theirs so I decided to give this Yamaha a try since it was one of a few amps I found that includes a phono input. I brought it home and set it up with my Polk bookshelf speakers and Klipsch subwoofer. At first it didn't sound as good as my 24 year old Sony amp. I played around with the settings for a day and increased the bass a tiny bit and viola! it sounds wonderful! The surround sound is better then my old Sony amp and the entire sound is clear and crisp. This amp is a keeper. I hope it lasts as long as my Sony amp did. It's a little on the expensive side but you are getting a lot for the price. I like being able to connect my phone to it via Bluetooth and having access to music streaming apps through the amp directly. I appreciate the Ethernet port too, although it does also have wi-fi if you don't want to or can't hardwire it to your router. Not really a fan of the big knob right in the center. I'd rather it be off to the side. The display could be a little bit brighter too. The remote is a nice small size. Beats the huge one that my Sony amp had. It makes a slight mechanical clunk when turning it on and off but it's quieter than the clunk that my old amp made when turning it on and off. One thing I can't seem to get it to do is turn on with the tv. It will turn off automatically when you turn off the tv but not on. I can't find any settings that would allow that but that's no deal breaker. All in all, I'm very pleased with it so far and would recommend it.

Totally Surprised with this receiver. It has punch and is easy to configure and use. The music cast app is a great addition and provides functionality. This was a replacement for Harman Kardon and was looking for a Marantz, because of the supply shorted settled for this one and it delivers beyond my imagination.

This is my first receiver. Was able to set it up myself without too much hassle but I did tons of research before buying. Would very highly recommend looking up any receiver you are planning to buy on Crutchfield to get a more accurate power rating. I have mine paired with a home theater in a box from Klipsch that included everything I needed for a 5.1 surround setup minus the receiver. With that being said the receiver works flawlessly. Sounds awesome paired with the Klipsch setup. The only thing I can point out as a negative is that when I first start it up to play audio after it being off for the night is that the subwoofer doesn't play audio for about the first 5 seconds. After that It's fine though.

Nice powerful receiver. Setting the receiver up can be a little challenging but once you figure it out it works nicely. Love the look and performance of this receiver that produces crystal clear sound. I highly recommend. Four stars because of initial setup

This mid-range receiver sounds good and has more options and features than you can shake a stick at. After bi-amping my front towers, they sound pretty punchy yet relatively well-controlled, so I'm pleased with that. What I'm less pleased with is the laughably ancient-looking setup menu, which literally looks like an old BIOS setup menu from 1985, and the fact that Yamaha wall-gardened the receiver's WiFi input to its proprietary standard MusicCast, which no one knows about, let alone uses. I also have not been able to make CEC work, but admittedly I haven't tried very hard. If you source from a HTPC over HDMI I recommend you first turn on the Yamaha, give it 10 seconds or so to initialize, and then and only then turn on your PC. The other way you may find yourself without sound. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase, which was an open-box at a crazy good price. It was sold as "fair" condition, but honestly, besides being packaged in a random beat-up box the receiver itself looked and worked just like new and came with all its accessories. So I would definitely recommend checking out Best Buy's open-box deals if they have some near you.

I purchased this receiver to add to my man cave. I have been impressed with the performance of this device. I had an issue With setting up music cast. Despite what many said online I found that if the antennas are block you can’t connect music cast. After making sure that the antennas were clear the system works great. I’m very happy with the sound quality and easy of use. Setting up my speakers and other devices were a breeze! I’m giving the ease of use only three stars due to the antenna issue.

Purchased this receiver to replace an old yamaha receiver for the 4k capabilities. Overall, the receiver does its job and has a excellent price for its featureset. The implementation with their connected features such as spotify could be a bit less confusing to set up. Other than that the receiver is great and sounds great hooked up to my q90t television. I would recommend thos for those hooking this up via an e-arc connection to utilize it as it works well and in many tvs it gets you down to a single remote. In addition, the ypao setup is great for initial configuration and will help you get the best you can out of this receiver.

Price was a bit more than I wanted to spend but it is worth every penny, hooked up to some Klipsch speakers and it sounds like a dream.

Good AV Receiver overall. Sound quality is very good, easy to setup and use with the MusicCast app, but the manual is seriously lacking in content. There is a serious delay with Bluetooth transmission and TV lip sync, and nowhere to fine-tune the delay, other than the "Audio Delay > Lip Sync" general setting for the receiver in the MusicCast app. Also, I purchased the receiver in the hope of setting up a 5.1 surround sound environment using Yamaha's MusicCast 20 wireless speakers, but no luck finding any in stock anywhere to date since October.

After spending some time with this unit i know i made the right choice. This is a feature packed unit at an excellent price point. Lots of reviewers are complaining about the menus and user interface but it is no more difficult to navigate than any other brand out there. If you want easy buy a soundbar! Coming from a mid 2000's era Onkyo unit the Yamaha interface is perfectly fine. If you want to be excited about watching movies again go this route, audition some speakers and get started in putting together a home entertainment system that'll have all your friends coming to your house for every event!

I love the easy of use of the receiver and the sound is just amazing. The only drawback is you must download their app in order to setup the Bluetooth and Musiccast functions which they don't mention. I would recommend this receiver to everyone.

needed a 7 channel receiver to replace a 5 yr old sony that died. This one definitely has more power and sounds better than the sony did. Install was simple.

Love the theater sound well balances range even the center is just right. However unhappy w oversized manual u have to print. But power n quality definitely nice bang for buck

I bought this guy used/open box. And Boy was it open. The thing came bare in a damaged cardboard box. No padding, no styrofoam nothing. It has a bit of cosmetic damage (very likely due to the shipping) but all the parts were included and it seems to work alright. Currently I have it wired up in a 5.1ch paradigm studio setup. It sounds great! The input switching is a little slow and it likes to hop to a different input on start from time to time. I tried out the bluetooth and the network streaming for grins and giggles and those seem to work but it feels a bit gimmicky. I'm not sure why someone would want to buy this for a home theater setup only to connect it to a phone's bluetooth. I use a google home/cast to cast enabled speakers instead. Pay attention to which HDMI port you use if you're looking for top quality since they're not all the same. So far so good.

Great buy. This was a deviation from past/older components where everything was adjustable on the face. This unit has a clean sleek look with minor adjustments on the face. Everything is done via my I-phone from Yamaha MusicCast or Yamaha AV setup aps or the remote. The adjustment process is a little intimidating as is the online "firmware updating" for an old school audiophile. Adjustments seem endless and some are several layers deep. Everyday is an another opportunity to tweek the settings. There is plenty of power @ 100w into a full 7.2 channel setup with 0.06% THD. I have read other reviews where there were a myriad of setting/download/functional issues but I have had none of these.

When I upgraded my 10(ish) year old LED TV to a newer OLEDevo one, I realized my old Yamaha receiver wouldn't handle the newer 4K or 8K HDMI standards. So, I ended up also upgrading the audio. I was so happy with my old Yamaha, I wanted to stick with the brand and bought this unit. LOVE it! Audio quality is every bit as good as it was, and it handles 8K video just fine. The network connectivity is also great, so I can run network streamed radio and such during the non-TV hours. Overall, a great upgrade to my home entertainment system.

Larger display on front panel would have been nice. Otherwise great sound quality and ease and flexibility of setup

This would had been a 5-Star but until we get the 8K over the air update it would be a 4-Star. And yes, we can download the update or use a usb. So far, I have been using this receiver for the past 2 months and I really like it. The sound its amazing using Dolby Atmos. Its simple, has 7 Hdmi inputs and 1 Hdmi output. The menu is a bit slow but not to worry, It can be access thru its IP address and its much easier to configure if needed. Looks futuristic as far design goes. I have no complains so far. Yamaha did it this time.

My previous avr was a pioneer elite. I was worried that this wouldn't live up to my previous experience. But this thing is awesome. Several months in and I've had zero issues with it. I think I found a unit that will bring me years of use while maintaining high quality
