Gets the Job Done with ease.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Quality seems great so far. Beautiful design and the audio is better to my previous Onkyo. Bought to use along with my 4K Samsung TV at 120hz when using the Xbox series X. Unfortunately, this is not yet available and it’s supposed to be available on a later date with an update.

Great sound and video. Needs quick-reference guide
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a 12-year-old Denon receiver that I was pretty happy with, but I wanted a receiver with a phono pre-amp and line in, which few receivers had 12 years ago. I didn't expect the dramatic improvement in sound that the Yamaha offers. I mainly use it to listen to classical and jazz recordings, some recent SACDs, but most are older CDs and LPs, plus a few mp3s and even old cassettes. This receiver has settings appropriate for any of these sources. I am especially impressed with the "enhancement" setting which dramatically improves mp3s and cassettes that had compressed frequency range. But it is also very impressive with high end recordings. With SACDs I use the "pure direct" setting which provides a highly accurate reproduction of the original recording. I don't use this receiver much for movies and videos, but it has done a wonderful job with streaming movies in 4k and 5.1 or 5.1.2 sound. As many online reviews have concluded, you have to pay a lot more to get anything better than this receiver. The only possible drawback I can think of is that this is a very complicated piece of equipment with so many options and settings that are not always easy to figure out. In order to fully understand them, you really need the complete manual, which is only available online. The brief quick-start guide that comes with the receiver hardly explains any of the options. That means that even a month after getting this receiver, I still refer to the nearly 400-page manual several times a week to refresh my memory as to what a given setting actually does.

Good all around Receiver.

Works great for me.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this for awhile so I wanted to get a few miles on it before reviewing. I'll start with the negatives and some of them may be my misunderstanding of the online manual. When using eArc with my Sony TV I do get some audio cutting out when using Sony's onboard apps. I don't know if it's the tv or the receiver. I will be hooking up an optical audio cable soon but I usually use my Firestick over the tv's apps. I have added Atmos speakers to my ceiling and they sound awesome but since adding the Atmos speakers I have not been able to bi-amp my front speakers properly. When I do the sound level is almost half on the bi-amped speakers. Again, could be a setting issue on my part but I tried several ( I guess I need to get with Yamaha support). I hate the remote. The old style remote was much more user friendly. Even programming this remote is more of a pain then the one on the less expensive Yamaha receiver I returned for this one. To confirm I am getting an Atmos signal I have to go into the options button on the remote ( which does report accurately) but Atmos never shows up on the receivers front display. Now the good. I have a middle of the road system. I think it sounds amazing when watching movies or a live football game. Love it! There is plenty of power to drive my speakers and I like the appearance of the receiver. Take your time with the settings because this thing has way more control settings then what I even really know what to do with. It can be a bit intimidating for some people. I mess with the settings a little each weekend and still discover new options. I don't have a game console connected to it but I do have Bluray and a Fire Stick and they play well with the receiver. You do have to use your Spotify phone app to play it on the receiver. It works great but I would have rather had the app built in. I have not had any major issues as some of the other reviewers have noted. I did have to do a firmware update via USB but it went smoothly.

Very good receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice powerful receiver. Setting the receiver up can be a little challenging but once you figure it out it works nicely. Love the look and performance of this receiver that produces crystal clear sound. I highly recommend. Four stars because of initial setup

Not a big improvement
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an older Yamaha (which I also bought from BestBuy) and thought that this would be a good upgrade since it has the newest HDMI version. Once I got it hooked up I discovered that it really wasn't much of an improvement over my older Yamaha and a big disappointment for me was the size of the display. The display size is half the size of the display size on my older Yamana. It is a nice unit , but it wasn't the best fit for me.

Decent but has an issue with ATT Uverse boxes, read
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's not perfect but its a pretty decent AV receiver. It was time to replace my old Yamaha audio receiver which finally gave up the ghost, the power section had issues and kept turning off. So I wanted to get a replacement that handled HDMI switching which my old one did not do and settled on this one. First thing I noticed out of the box was how much lighter in weight this one was compared to my old receiver. I don't view this as a plus though . I see that as lesser power driving capabilities but I'm going to assume all the brands are lightening up in this area unless you want to go real high end of the scale. I'd consider this one in the mid range of the Yamaha line. It seems plenty loud enough but all the sound fields seem a little flat and tinny to me but I haven't adjusted any of the built in eq settings yet. I'm hoping I can tweak them a little more to my liking yet. It only has one optical digital input which is a con for me but I made it work. I'd like to see at least one more. I used that 1 optical input as the sound feed from my TV for the rare times I use the antenna signal from the TV tuner or for anything I would input directly to the TV inputs. By doing this I was forced to use an analog audio input from my 400 disc CD jukebox, yes I still occasionally listen to Cd's,so a second optical input would have been very nice for that. The setup menus I felt were ok, nothing pretty to look at but functional. A few settings are not very clear in what they do unless you dig into the manual so a note on the screen would be helpful on a few of these settings. The full manual has to be downloaded online, no paper copy, not a surprise these days. My biggest issue ,which caused a few days of hair pulling is related to the HDMI inputs 1-3 on the receiver. My ATT Uverse DVR set-top box was initially connected to HDMI input 1. EVERY time the system was powered up the uverse box would soft reset itself and you had to wait for it several minutes to come back up again. I tried changing cables, forcing a hard reset of the Uverse stb so it reloaded its firmware. I tried turning off the HDMI control and ARC functions of the Yamaha receiver ,all were no help. I was thinking it was just a coincidence and maybe the box had just failed and was about to call ATT for a replacement. I tried one last thing. I moved the cable to HDMI input 4 on the Yamaha and voila , it worked normally. I'm not sure what is different about the HDMI inputs 1-3 on the receiver, I have to dig into the manual to see what it says, but those 3 inputs are grouped separately on the back of the receiver. But one thing is certain, ATT Uverse boxes do not play nice with them. For now I don't have anything connected to those 3 inputs.

Great sounding amp after tweaks to the settings!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing doesn't sound all that great straight out of the box BUT tweak the setting a little bit and it sounds amazing! I've always been a huge Sony fan but needed a new amp that also has a phono input on it. Sony doesn't seem to include that anymore on theirs so I decided to give this Yamaha a try since it was one of a few amps I found that includes a phono input. I brought it home and set it up with my Polk bookshelf speakers and Klipsch subwoofer. At first it didn't sound as good as my 24 year old Sony amp. I played around with the settings for a day and increased the bass a tiny bit and viola! it sounds wonderful! The surround sound is better then my old Sony amp and the entire sound is clear and crisp. This amp is a keeper. I hope it lasts as long as my Sony amp did. It's a little on the expensive side but you are getting a lot for the price. I like being able to connect my phone to it via Bluetooth and having access to music streaming apps through the amp directly. I appreciate the Ethernet port too, although it does also have wi-fi if you don't want to or can't hardwire it to your router. Not really a fan of the big knob right in the center. I'd rather it be off to the side. The display could be a little bit brighter too. The remote is a nice small size. Beats the huge one that my Sony amp had. It makes a slight mechanical clunk when turning it on and off but it's quieter than the clunk that my old amp made when turning it on and off. One thing I can't seem to get it to do is turn on with the tv. It will turn off automatically when you turn off the tv but not on. I can't find any settings that would allow that but that's no deal breaker. All in all, I'm very pleased with it so far and would recommend it.

So far so good with a couple hiccupa.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this because I wanted something future proof and not super expensive. This seemed to check those boxes. I was coming from an old sony receiver and wanted something with atmos and hdmi 2.1. overall this has been a good receiver. As soon as you connect to internet you have a update. Setting up was easy enough. Sounds has been real good. The remote is just alright. A couple hiccups I had were it was playing atmos fine and then it just stopped. The source it was playing from support atmos. I ended up resetting the receiver and it took care of that issue. I also had an issue when using one of the scene buttons when you click it the device to that hdmi would just go blank. Again after a reset it fixed that. I am just waiting on the new update to unlock all the hdmi 2.1 features. Overall though this is a really solid receiver under 700 dollars.

Pleased with my purchase
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This mid-range receiver sounds good and has more options and features than you can shake a stick at. After bi-amping my front towers, they sound pretty punchy yet relatively well-controlled, so I'm pleased with that. What I'm less pleased with is the laughably ancient-looking setup menu, which literally looks like an old BIOS setup menu from 1985, and the fact that Yamaha wall-gardened the receiver's WiFi input to its proprietary standard MusicCast, which no one knows about, let alone uses. I also have not been able to make CEC work, but admittedly I haven't tried very hard. If you source from a HTPC over HDMI I recommend you first turn on the Yamaha, give it 10 seconds or so to initialize, and then and only then turn on your PC. The other way you may find yourself without sound. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase, which was an open-box at a crazy good price. It was sold as "fair" condition, but honestly, besides being packaged in a random beat-up box the receiver itself looked and worked just like new and came with all its accessories. So I would definitely recommend checking out Best Buy's open-box deals if they have some near you.

So far its great.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using an old cheep receiver and going to this was amazing. I have 4 klipsch r51m's that never really did anything with the old system. As soon as I got them hooked up I noticed I huge difference. The klipsch started to show its range. The old system made them really flat and kind of a chore to listen to. Not with the yamaha. Very pleasant even for long periods. I did buy this based off others reviews about how well it does with music. The huge multi channel system isn't the main thing I wanted but happy with what I can do with it. Haven't tested movies much because I don't have the best setup to judge that. I did try and run into issues that are known. I have an lg cx and ps5. I am running the ps5 to the TV and sending audio to the receiver though arc. No problems so far. If it drops the arc connection here and there I will not be mad though. I love the sound that much. One of the few cons may be that the buttons on the receiver are hard to use and navigate. I'm not to sure if you can change the station without the remote or phone on the radio.

Yamaha V6A excels
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a 20-year Sony receiver fan, so i was concerned when switching to Yamaha. But the reviews were correct: this is a better-sounding receiver! My speakers never sounded this good. And the Dolby Atmos speakers now fill the sound field completely. Setup was straight forward, but the owners manual is lacking in detail.

Great Receiver Sound
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this particular receiver for its future-proof features and to enjoy my smart TV streaming apps through the ARC. The setup for additional components was pretty straightforward and the audio balance for the room went well also. The sound for movies is pleasing, (I like being in the movie by surround-sound!). I haven't tried some other features like MusicCast, that's down the road. I gave 4 stars because I was hoping the remote would be able to act as a universal remote and handle the other components also. The online documentation did not provide a clear cut way for me to understand how to work the remote for that, so I'll continue research for universal remotes. The receiver is definitely worth consideration!

Poor Execution
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While this AVR promises a lot and even more so with future updates it is plagued with issues. This biggest issue is with HDR pass through for Dolby Vision and HDR10 games. When placed between an Xbox Series X and an LG CX, there is significant color banding in the picture. Eliminate this AVR and suddenly the issue goes away. What this translates to is that if you have a set up capable of modern picture fidelity, this AVR in its current firmware 1.23 will degrade the picture. eARC also doesn’t function correctly. When a TV delivers an eARC signal, the AVR defaults back to the TV for audio, leaving you a soundless picture. Switch to the input and you get nothing. Push the “setup” button and suddenly you get sound and picture on the correct input on the AVR. Turning off eARC on the TV corrects this but then makes that tech useless. The sound quality is incredible, YPOA work Ok, and the unit is very attractive to look at. The binding posts are very close together so use banana plugs otherwise your in for a cramped cable set up. If you can wait to buy a new AVR, do so with this one until the tentative December update arrives to bring the HDMI 2.1 features online and hopefully correct these issues.

Surprise Surprise
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Totally Surprised with this receiver. It has punch and is easy to configure and use. The music cast app is a great addition and provides functionality. This was a replacement for Harman Kardon and was looking for a Marantz, because of the supply shorted settled for this one and it delivers beyond my imagination.

Audio upgrade well worth the effort
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I upgraded my 10(ish) year old LED TV to a newer OLEDevo one, I realized my old Yamaha receiver wouldn't handle the newer 4K or 8K HDMI standards. So, I ended up also upgrading the audio. I was so happy with my old Yamaha, I wanted to stick with the brand and bought this unit. LOVE it! Audio quality is every bit as good as it was, and it handles 8K video just fine. The network connectivity is also great, so I can run network streamed radio and such during the non-TV hours. Overall, a great upgrade to my home entertainment system.

Great value for the feature set.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this receiver to replace an old yamaha receiver for the 4k capabilities. Overall, the receiver does its job and has a excellent price for its featureset. The implementation with their connected features such as spotify could be a bit less confusing to set up. Other than that the receiver is great and sounds great hooked up to my q90t television. I would recommend thos for those hooking this up via an e-arc connection to utilize it as it works well and in many tvs it gets you down to a single remote. In addition, the ypao setup is great for initial configuration and will help you get the best you can out of this receiver.

Good Receiver Overall
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good AV Receiver overall. Sound quality is very good, easy to setup and use with the MusicCast app, but the manual is seriously lacking in content. There is a serious delay with Bluetooth transmission and TV lip sync, and nowhere to fine-tune the delay, other than the "Audio Delay > Lip Sync" general setting for the receiver in the MusicCast app. Also, I purchased the receiver in the hope of setting up a 5.1 surround sound environment using Yamaha's MusicCast 20 wireless speakers, but no luck finding any in stock anywhere to date since October.

Nice Receiver to have
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this receiver to add to my man cave. I have been impressed with the performance of this device. I had an issue With setting up music cast. Despite what many said online I found that if the antennas are block you can’t connect music cast. After making sure that the antennas were clear the system works great. I’m very happy with the sound quality and easy of use. Setting up my speakers and other devices were a breeze! I’m giving the ease of use only three stars due to the antenna issue.
