Previous to this I had a plastic case that covered everything and water would get trapped and this edge case in combination with screen protector prevents that.

Good screen protector for Apple Watch

I was able to have geek squad apply it to my watch, so I am unsure of how easy it is to put on. One issue I found was it became scratched somewhat easily. But I would prefer the protector becoming scratched over the watch screen. It was not thick so it did not make any differences to the screen.
