Melts off when charging

She followed all instructions in applying the shield, charged it for the first time, and when it was done the shield had melted off and is no longer sticky so it cannot be reapplied. I don't know what she did wrong, but if charging kills the shield, I don't see how it's economical to replace a couple times per week.
