If you havent played the demo, you should definitely give it a try first.
If you had a great time playing the demo and enjoyed the gameplay and class system then you will absolutely love this game. I played the demo for 15+ hours and enjoyed every minute of it. The good campaign is amazingly fun and even more fun with 2 people. The evil campaign is not as hard as I thought it would be, although it is also a blast. I played the game with a friend for both campaigns and it was really fun. We played casual our first time through and the AI was plenty good for a beginner. The Heroic mode is perfect for anyone who wants a tough campaign, and Legendary is absolutely insane. The oliphants, trolls and ents never get old, however the pellenor field map definitely limits where the oliphants can walk. Weathertop also has and oliphant which makes is a great map.
If you are a lord of the rings fan, but you havent played the demo, then dont buy this game right off the bat. Rent it first and play the good campaign and some instant action and see what you think. Dont give up on this game too fast. If you hate the class system, dont just quit. If you stick with it and get better or even great with one class, you can dominate online and in the campaign.
If you have played the demo, and thought it was fun, but you have heard a lot of trash about this game dont give up either. This game is really fun and i think the reason people are trashing it is because they dont try to improve their skills with the classes. If you are patient and keep trying to improve, you will really love this game. I was doubting whether it was a good idea to buy the game too, but i am sooooo glad that i did.
If you think that there arent enough NPC's in this game, then you should definitely do some research. The campaign has tons....tons of NPC's which make the battles feel epic. The instant action modes also have a perfect amount of NPC's. The NPC's are also amazingly good in the campaign. They killed me many time and i had them set to casual. If you set them to heroic or legendary in the instant action modes....then goodluck.
If you have a problem with the graphics in this game, then you should either play it on a nicer tv and hook up hdmi or enjoy the gameplay and level design instead. The graphics are not nearly as bad as everyone says and they dont take away from the experience.
Pros of this game:
-Great Great level design. It feels just like the movies.
-Soundtrack fits perfectly.
-Implementation of the Heroes
-The classes are more balanced than people say, especially in the campaign.
-Great splitscreen action (i will comeback to this in the cons)
-There are plenty...plenty of NPC's on screen in the campaign which makes everything feel awesome.
Cons of this game:
-The splitscreen for the 360 has a bug when u play with 3 or 4 players. The bottom right corner of the tv is really bright, meaning the 3rd or 4th player cant see. Pandemic is working fast to fix this, and dont let this make you not buy the game.
-The voice during the game is cheesey. I turned the voice off at the beginning so i didnt have to listen to the stupid commander. The narator (Lord Elrond) does a great job.
-Some levels do get a bit frustrating. You get knocked off a bridge or cliff or you get smashed thousands of times and cant get up....(this is due to the NPC's being really good)
I hope that everyone at leasts give this game a try. I hoped this helped people make a final decision.

Anyone who is a fan of the old star wars: battlefront games will love this title. It has a lot of similarities to the Battlefront games (because they both made by Pandemic Studios.) But that's not really a bad thing, LOTR: Conquest has a lot of the characteristics that made the Battlefront games so good, but instead of laser blasters and thermal grenades you have bows, swords, and magic. It has very good graphics and very fluid game play even as you cut through the endless hordes of enemy grunts. You can play as all of you favorite heroes/ villains form the movies like the Battlefront games . And in certain levels you can take control of Ents/trolls which is pretty cool. LOTR: Conquest does have a few drawbacks though. The character selection is limited to warrior, scout, archer, and Mage. And no matter which side you are each character has the same abilities, A little variation in powers from the sides of good and evil would have been nice to see. Online play is okay, but its kind of one sided, everyone usually picks the scout, turns invisible and stealth assassinates everyone else, which isn't really fair.

They make this game that is so good but they fall short of certain needs. The storyline is amazing but too short. They cover a lot of major LOTR battles and play out certain parts which is cool. I was surprised how many ai there where on the screen. It wasnt anywhere near how many where in the movie but it still feels like there is a lot of them. WHY ISNT THIS GAME 4 PLAYER CO-OP?? The was stupid. There is only 4 classes which makes the game repeditive. Being heros is cool tho. Maybe buy this game when it drops in price. I'd say its worth maybe 30 bucks.

Lord of the Rings: Battlefront

Lord of the Rings: Conquest is a great of example of how you can set out to do something really cool, and completely screw it up.
Pandemic, the makers of Star Wars Battlefront, takes the helm on Conquest, which is bascially just Star Wars: Battlefront with Lord of the Rings skins and classes.
Lets start off with the singleplayer.
It should first be noted that you should not decide whether to buy this on the singleplayer. This game was made to be played online.
There are 2 campaigns, the first is the good campaign, in which you will fight through about 7 different battles which last about 15-20 minutes each, depending on your skill level. After you complete the good storyline you can unlock the evil story.
The evil storyline is a very creative look into "What would of happened if Frodo didn't destroy the ring?" You'll play 6-7 different battles, in which your taking over middle earth.
During each of these campaigns you will fight the same exact enemies over and over, push the same exact buttons over and over, and pretty much have the exact same feeling throughout it all. At times you will have a chance to play a Hero, which is basically just a slightly buffed version of each class. (Gandalf > Mage, Aragorn > Warrior, Legolas > Archer, etc..)
They have almost the exact same attacks and mechanics, but usually do a little more damage and have different visual effects.
Now for the multiplayer.
Let me start off by saying that the Mage class is SEVERELY overpowered. So much so, that people just stack mages on their team and win the game 75% of the time. It is very difficult to play the scout or warrior classes in MP simply because the mage and archer rule the battlefield.
There are 3 different types of play modes...Team Deathmatch, Capture the Ring, and Conquest.
In conquest you capture different points to earn points. If you have played battlefront or battlefield, its the exact same thing.
Capture the Ring is just like Capture the Flag, you find the ring and take it back to your base.
While each mode is fun, its overshadowed by the fact that Multiplayer requires you to be extrememly skilled, thanks to the fact that the game features a horrible camera, and melee classes are so gimped.
Overall, i'd say you should only pick this one up if your just a die hard LOTR fans. The multiplayer is too generic to last long, and the singleplayer is too short to be worth 60 bucks.

the game was amazing umtill i discovered the instant action game option. The only thing you should do with this game is rent it definatley, because overall, i played the game for about 8 hours. the instant action games are exactly like SW:BF except the hero deathmatch option. OVERALL A VERY FUN GAME! the graphics are pretty good, i cant complain, my favorite part is the end of rise of sauron, the shire level. you get to kill hobbits!!!

Price is not really a reason to give a game a bad review. $60 is standard for new generation console games.
the gameplay isnt necessarily deep, but is fun anyway.

I played the LoTR Conquest demo, so take in the fact that my review shall not be as accurate as the real game. Within the demo I played the single player training which told you how to play and then the online play. The game play was easy and cool and I was really exited to have a knew LoTR game. As a played it more I reliezed it was too much like Star Wars Battlefront. Everything was the same.
You would spaw chosing which charater you'd be, an Acher, Scout, Warrior, or Mage, and if you were lucky a special player (Gandalf, an ent, troll, ect.) When I read a review about the game it said all the characters were the same greatness. But as i played I realized good team pwnd the bad team. Every online game I played the good team won (it was about 11 in a row). The bad team characters died in 1 hit from a good teams Archer, Mage, Warrior, and scout. While it took the bad team about 5 hits to kill one good player. Many of my friends noticed it as well. The game was good, but it is not worth $60. I think that is an outragous price. Many would agree. I'm only going to buy the full game if it is $40 or less, whether its used or not.

A good game for die hard fans of LOTR

I really love Lord of the Rings, and I expected a game that met my standards. Lord of the Rings: Conquest was not the game I expected it to be. I expected a small step up from Battlefront II, or even the same game with a "LOTR rework." This game was a step down. This game is not worth $60 unless you are a die hard fan of LOTR. On a positive note, the ability to play as Gandalf and other heroes is cool, and the mage class is nice (but overpowered), and it follows the movie quite well for a game. I would recommend you save your money, unless you really want a "mediocre" LOTR game.
