Decent Drive
Posted .Not to be too technical, you definately get what you pay for in this drive. It incorporates all the latest in harddrive technology. You can say this is one of the fastest, quietest, large capacity drive you can buy. For the technical side this drive averages between 84MB/s and 92MB/s in harddrive benchmarks. The metal plate you see in the picture is the dual mount point of the drive spindle to ensure super stable platter rotation for ultra precise reading and writing. I could go on but all you need to know is this is a great drive. I have attached a image of one the test results I did trasfering a 4.3 gig file from my main drive which consists of 4 western digital 36gig raptor 10k RPM drives in raid 0 on a 3ware 9650SE raid card going to the drive in the review. I'm impressed.

Warranty isn't 5 years, it's 3.
Posted .This has the same warranty as the OEM white box. It's 3, not fix. Look at the while label on the bottom of the box.

Great Drive if not DOA
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWin 7 told me my primary drive was failing, so I did an immediate backup. As I'd had a couple Seagate drives go South on me recently, I was disinclined to trust them with my main hard drive, again. So, I checked reviews and decided that WD Black could be trusted. Based on that, I found the closest BestBuy that had it in stock and went out into a snowstorm to pick it up. Got back to the office at 9pm and hooked it up to my machine. Though it appeared to connect and work, the machine was absurdly slow (must have been getting a ton of read / write errors). I thought it was my imagination and told it to restore. Next morning, the restore had failed. I ran some diagnostics against the drive, just in case. Sure enough, it failed a dozen ways from Sunday. So, I called BestBuy where they had ONE left in stock. I asked them to hold it, drove down, swapped it without issue, and came back. Plugging the new one in, it was a world of difference. The restore moved quickly and I'm back on my "feet." Meanwhile, I will mention that the WD 1TB Black drive is noticably louder than any other drive I now own (mostly Seagate). If you remember the drives from the late 80's where the voicecoils / arms were audibly obvious when they moved, you have an idea what I'm talking about. It's not offensive in my desktop case, just very clear when I'm doing a lot of transfers. In a way, I find it reassuring as I am confident that any change in drive health will be clearly audible.

Great product, confusing warranty length
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have bought dozens of WD Black drives and as usual, the 1TB drives offer the speed and silence needed for a modern computer. This one went into an All-In-One and I was a little worried about the heat, but it has proven to be a non-issue. Installation was easy, formatting was simple and overall, I am very pleased with the product... except... The warranty on the website is different than the one printed on the box for several models of WD and Seagate drives - not too big a deal, but one that can influence the purchaser... check the fine print if this is an issue for you. I needed this drive ASAP, so was willing to accept a shorter printed warranty period on the box and just hope WD will honor the 5 year warranty listed on the BB and WD websites if we have problems down the road. Not too happy with this given the dramatic spiral of HD reliability these past few years. Best Buy and Western Digital need to get together and figure this out! I've used WD drives for many years because they have done so well, I just hope the warranty thing is a misprint and not an indication that they are losing confidence in their own drives.

Excellent, Highly Recommended, I Love These Drives
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have 3 identical Western Digital Caviar Black Desktop SATA Hard Drives that were purchased at different times all from Best Buy . Let me tell you these drives are rock solid, fast, hiccup free and great for every application except for RAID configurations. They are not meant for RAID and shouldn't be purchased for that use. Simply put Caviar Black Drives from Western Digital are great ultra reliable drives that will bring you maximum joy and they have a 5 year warranty as well. Just in case there is a problem Western Digital has one of the best customer service on line and on the phone. I would also register the drive(s) on the Western Digital website as soon as you get them. This drive does not come with the awesome Western Digital SureConnect SATA Cable. But it's not a deal breaker. Just be aware that if your adding a drive you may need to purchase one. One last note If you are buying these drives I would recommend buying the ones made in Malaysia. Just look on the bottom label. Most are made in Malaysia but you should always double check. Then enjoy this excellent drive...Bravo Western Digital & Best Buy.

Great replacement hard drive
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI was in desperate need for a replacement hard drive due to my factory hard drive encountering a nasty failure situation. After purchasing this hard drive and mounting it within my PC, I was up and running in a little less than an hour. The documentation provided with the hard drive was very helpful for someone not familiar with replacing the device. The hard drive has been stable in my machine for over a month now and no error messages or physical hardware ailments have been reported during my weekly scans. I would recommend this hard drive to anyone requiring a 1TB replacement or anyone looking to add an additional terabyte of capacity to their system.

Works great plus a bonus
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe hard drive works No problems so far. Bonus- The box does read 32Mb cache, but the hard drive itself says 64Mb cache. I first bought a Seagate, but after opening the box, the hard drive had a different serial #. After checking (reading) massive reviews. I found out the Seagate drive Had a high failure rate. People when ever you purchase a new drive ALWAYS check the serial # on the box and make sure it matches the serial # on the hard drive.

Positively the best SATA Drives Period !!!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have been using these drives for years in all of my servers and not one issue ever with the WD Black Caviar drives. I have tried other major brands and they just do not compare to the quality of the Caviar Black drives, I also stay away from the lower cost drives even within the WD product line. Yes I'm fussy as I replace all of my drives every 5 years or so just to insure performance reliability, and retire them to backup drive use only.
