I wasn’t really seriously looking at upgrading my soundbar until I saw the Heston 120. I had visited a local A/V installer who had the Sonos and Klipsch lines, but couldn’t justify spending the money on them. Once I saw the classic Marshall styling of their soundbar, I was hooked and had to give it a try! I’m so glad I did, this thing is awesome! I didn’t opt to get the sub yet, in my opinion it sounds great without it and has plenty of bass output on its own. My only regret is that I didn’t buy it earlier.

It looks like Marshall has decided to enter the premium and high-end soundbar race. The packaging immediately indicates how Marshall puts a lot of attention to the small details. The Marshall Heston 120 soundbar features a sleek, heritage-inspired design, making it a gorgeous and stylish addition to my home setup. Its design is unique, wrapped in leather-like textures and finished with classic gold tactile brass knobs that feel sturdy and classy. In terms of weight, it is quite heavy, but the build quality fully justifies it. To me, this is a complete audio system for my movie and music needs. The Heston 120 is a 5.1.2-channel with Dolby Atmos that delivers immersive, room-filling audio experience without the need for additional speakers. It includes HDMI eARC, along with one extra HDMI input for a console or streaming device. It also features an RCA input, which is great for connecting a turntable or other older audio devices which is a plus. There’s also an Ethernet port for a stable internet connection. I use a similar soundbar with comparable connectivity, but it lacks key features like Ethernet and RCA inputs. I really appreciate Marshall including these, as they offer more options that might be necessary in some scenarios. The setup was straightforward. I downloaded the Marshall app on my iPhone and quickly followed the on-screen prompts to add, control, and customize the soundbar. I connected my TV via HDMI eARC and my turntable through RCA, and everything worked flawlessly. Overall, setup was a breeze and the soundbar looks classy. The soundbar supports Wi-Fi 6 for streaming through AirPlay, Chromecast, Spotify, and TIDAL, allowing music to be played without using a TV. It also includes Bluetooth 5.3, making it easy to stream music from smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Watching movies and listening to music on this soundbar was a great experience. The sound is clean and detailed, especially for vocals and dialogue. I was able to hear conversations easily due to the clarity. The spatial audio powered by Dolby Atmos created a true immersive experience enabled me to hear effects coming from all around me. Overall, the Marshall Heston 120 is an all-in-one audio solution for both TV and music. I liked its design that is classy, and the build quality is excellent. One drawback is the absence of a physical remote control. While most controls are available directly on the unit and through the Marshall app, having a dedicated remote control would have been a welcome addition. Other than that, this soundbar is worth owing.

The Marshall sound bar offers superb sound quality out of a very vintage style amp that you may of grown up with. With Marshalls track record of producing nothing less than picture perfect sounds, you can expect your entertainment area to sound more like a moving theater with less drone. Out of the box you can tell that Marshall held nothing back in the way of quality. This unit has some weight to it and the three bass, treble and sound buttons have a really nice brass finish to them that you would expect to see on a typical Marshall amp. One thing to take note of that i noticed right away is the lack of remote to control your volume. You have a few choices to accomplish your desired settings. You can download the free app and through that control your different settings and adjust the volume. You can use the dedicated dials that come on the unit or you can set up your three preset buttons this way you can switch between settings depending on what your current night brings. Through the app you have few different presets that work pretty well based on your desired effect. I found night mode to be one of the best settings as it tends to limit bass output so that you don't blow out the walls during high action scenes at 10pm all while still maintaining a very full vibrant sound quality by allowing vocals and your mids to come through unhindered. Once the app is set up it will then perform a calibration sweep where it will attempt to get a feel for the layout of your current room and adjust sound output accordingly. While im very familiar with Marshall amps, as i have spent several years fooling around with my garage band, i wasn't too sure how it would sound in a movie style setting. The Marshall Henston 120 came through with flying colors and filled the room evenly with no sounds over powering the other. When watching Movies like Lord of the Rings the high action output bass complemented the rest of the scene all without drowning out vocals. But was more impressive is how full it made the room sound. I have personally never been impressed with sound bars as to me they seem like the easy route to take for those looking to set up a surround style home entertainment system and never truly fill the room. Soundbars always feel like they are lacking and never deliver that full punch. Either vocals are too low or bass is too high and they never seem to be dispersed evenly throughout the room. That is not the case here at all. The placement of the speakers and the power output of the drivers made me feel like i had speakers in all corners of the house and made watching my favorite sporting events insane. I understand this set up in not cheap by far so the bottom line is this, is this set up like a typical soundbar? Yes, if you have owned soundbars in the past then all this is going to seem familiar. But are you looking for the most minimalistic approach to setting up a surround system to fill the room all without having to run wires and drill holes? Are you looking for a astatically pleasing set up with a touch of nostalgia? Then this is a must have for the audiophile out there looking for the best sound quality for their buck. This is a premium set up that will not disappoint.
