
Only a few short years into the future, the world has reached a crisis point. In 2016, a nuclear exchange in the Middle East crippled the world's oil supply, sending crude oil prices soaring to $800 a barrel. In the aftermath, Russia stepped in to fill the void and experienced a massive economic boom as a result, regaining its superpower status. Western Europe, too, has achieved superpower status after banding together to form the European Federation. Now, in 2020, the European Federation has withdrawn from NATO to protest the United States' construction of an orbital military platform. Tensions are rising between the U.S., Europe and Russia, and the years-long military stalemate among the three is about to come to an explosive end.
