Digitally remastered two-fer containing a pair of reggae compilations. Following it's launch in the summer of 1968, Trojan Records swiftly became the dominant force on the UK's West Indian music scene. Over the years that immediately ensued, the company released literally hundreds of 7Inch singles and albums, showcasing the talents of every Jamaican music maker of note. Released in 1969 and 1970, respectively, each of the albums showcases a dozen of the finest recordings to date from the catalog of leading Jamaican producer, Harry 'J' Johnson. KOTTOS takes it's name from an enchanting, dangerous giant of Greek mythology. The instrumental makeup of KOTTOS is unique recorders from the lowest bass to the highest sopranino; a grand Russian Bayan concert accordion; the cello, which adds sounds from the avant-garde and Nordic folk music; and a Greek bouzouki adding Mediterranean colour and Celtic sonorities. The songs and dances of European folk music inspired the late 19th and early 20th-century composers featured on this album, from Bartók to Vaughan Williams, and the journey takes us from the mountain tunes of Europe's northernmost tip to the melancholy songs of it's easternmost reaches, to dances from it's southernmost point. The group's eponymous debut album KOTTOS (2016) received the Listeners' Prize of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation's P2 station. 2020... Sitting at home with no performances ahead brought Linus Roth back to his notebooks, in which he had been jotting down random musical ideas over the course of many years. One of them that suddenly struck him, was an idea for a recording program made up of some of his most beloved pieces for violin and piano, all of which had in common both a virtuoso character and that they were all dances. What better way to lift the spirits than with dance music? Linus called his long term musical partner, pianist José Gallardo and five weeks later, they had the remarkable opportunity to record the album in the visually stunning and acoustically unique Library of the former monastery in Ochsenhausen, Germany, home of the Music Academy of Baden-Württemberg.
