Ys 9 is another fantastic game from Falcom, further strengthening the Ys series. If you are a newcomer to the series Ys 9 is as good an entry as any since there each game stands on it's own without needing to know much about the previous games. Ys 9 made a few allusions to the land of Altago and Laxia from previous games, but not anything that greatly detracts from the story if you haven't played 7 or 8. The strongpoints here again are gameplay and story. The characters are likeable, but not really deep in the way that they are in Falcoms other main series Trails are. The music is great like Falcoms jdk band always delivers, though it is a step down from Ys VIII. The graphics are slightly better than Ys VIII's but if you are concerned with graphics you probably want the PS4 or PC version rather than the switch version anyway. There are problems with terrible framerate, especially in town when you spawn many enemies in confined quarters. I had the game crash a few times also, but got in the habit of saving pretty regularly and restarting the game rather than just putting my switch into sleep since there seems to be a problem with memory dump with certain games. Overall it's a great game that I'd heartily recommend with one caveat. If you are interested in the series but haven't played Ys VIII first, that game is better in almost every way and I'd fully recommend playing that first.

An absolutely amazing ride, Adol is at it again, definately a worthy addition to the Ys franchise and the continuation of Adol's adventure. Overall its an absolutely amazing and fun game, not as good as Lacrimosa of Dana, but a must play. In its current state the game plays very well on the switch, if you can get it in a different platform, it will have better performance, but I didnt have any issues playing this on the switch and on the go! The story of the game is episodic and builds up little by little until the last two chapters (total of 9 chapters). Quite a few side quests and a nice amount of upgrades/equipment. The fast pace hack and slash combat really separate this game from a lot of other RPGs out there. I absolutely recommend this game, if you can get it in a discount, definately get it!

Ys IX is the latest game in Falcom's Ys series. Adol's adventures continue in this game with a fun new twist. The monstrum abilities make exploring a lot of fun and gives this game a unique feeling compared to other Ys games. Like Ys VIII the game retains the party system and other battle mechanics while also focusing more on the story. You still get to explore but it can seem more limited because of the city. The pact edition includes a small soundtrack sample and a mini art book. The game also has DLC. Some costume, weapon skins, and items. None of this changes the game in any significant way.
