Bosch 500 Series 24" Top Control Built-In Dishwasher with Stainless Steel Tub, 3rd Rack, 44 dBa
We’ve run about 120 loads in two months, so I feel reasonable writing a review.
Replaced our 10 year old Bosch that started to make our dishes smell, despite cleaning the filter religiously and running empty loads to clean the basin. No smell in the new dishwasher.
Even with the 3rd row, All our dishes fit great, including large pots, bowls and 9x13 pans. We do not have wine glasses, can’t speak to that. Sometimes when extra room is needed, I remove the utensil cage on the bottom rack (using top rack for silverware) and it provides a ton of extra space. I actually rarely use the bottom rack utensil cage.
It takes longer to load the 3rd rack with silverware (than traditional baskets at the bottom) but I like that my crawling infant can no longer reach the utensils at all while I’m loading/unloading (you know what I’m talking about if you have kids). Plus, it’s nice not to have to bend over to load/unload the utensils, and I bet they come out cleaner.
Everything comes out clean, and our glasses look as clean as they smell.
Drying works great. Never had a problem with wet plastic dishes beyond places where water naturally settles (like the underside of mixing bowls with a raised base). Sipping cups and plastic kiddie cups are dry and ready to be stacked in each other in the cupboard. I do use Jet Dry, though.
Front of dishwasher shows ALL fingerprints, but ours is on an island facing the stove, so it isn’t a concern for us (image shows fingerprinted dishwasher- not terrible, but not great).
With the emphasis on how quiet this is (and it is quiet), I thought it would be even quieter than our 10 year old Bosch. It’s the same. They are both significantly quieter than the Kitchenaid we had before that.
Our previous setup was for a wired dishwasher (not a plug in). Installer said this dishwasher came with a plug, but also included what was needed to convert to a direct wired unit- in case that helps anyone.
This Dishwasher is so quiet you will think it,s not working. But it is and the dishes are always sparkling! The position of the rack compartments are a little odd but I can deal with it! Well worth the money!
One month in. Super quiet. LOVE the 3rd rack. Racks all seem strong and slide well. No bad smell as referenced by others (mostly for 300 models) but we always do the airdry option.
Plenty of room if you pay attention to how you load the dishwasher and with the gargantuan silverware basket removed. We use the 3rd rack for silverware. Depending on how tall your glasses are, you can adjust the 3rd rack down for bigger ladles, etc. same for the 2nd rack depending on the size of your plates.
My only complaints would be the drying and run time. SO thankful I chose the model with Auto Air. First time I ran it I chose normal with Auto Air. The racks and interior were still wet. Might have been better had I not checked it right after the door popped open. Now I run normal+sanitize+airdry. Problem solved; but, the run time is ridiculous. Wish the EPA hadn’t done away with heated drying.
So buy the 500 over the 300 for the air dry. Skip the 800 or higher. I can’t imagine the difference in quietness could be so profound to warrant $200-$600 more.
What Sony is to TVs, Waste King is to garbage disposers, Bosch is to dishwashers.
I struggled with which dishwasher to buy. Online user reviews were confusing at best. Most of the top rated items on Consumer Reports are Bosch, but user reviews didn't reflect the same high scores. I decided to go with my gut and get this Bosch model - my first Bosch product.
After one week, my initial evaluation is that it's flat-out awesome - the best washer I've ever owned.
1) Dishes come out completely spotless
2) The Air Dry feature works extremely well. No dishwasher gets everything bone dry, but this thing is darn close. Most of the negative feedback I've seen is around drying - not just with this dishwasher, but all dishwashers. This dishwasher gets everything dry enough to go straight into the cabinet. I don't agree with the negative feedback I've seen on this.
3) Organization - The interior is highly flexible with lots of options to put dishes in different places
4) Third rack - I was skeptical of a third rack - concerned over it taking up additional space. But things get very clean and because the second rack is adjustable, it doesn't take away from the ability to put what you need where you need it.
5) Quiet - It's so quiet you wouldn't know it's on except for the red light that shines on the ground telling you it's running
6) It's a sleek looking machine that blends in well with my kitchen.
1) The interior seems a bit on the small side. However, because of the flexibility of the interior racks this really isn't an issue.
I have installed all the other dishwashers I've owned but I did not install this one. The Best Buy crew did it in 1/2 hour and everything seems great. I can only assume it's easy to install.
I have only had it a week, but unless something breaks, this is by far the best dishwasher I've ever owned and would definitely buy again.
I highly recommend
This is the best dishwasher I have ever owned. My wife and I go crazy trying to get this thing to fail to clean a dish. 2 day dried on mac-n-cheese: gone. Burnt on baking dishes that haven't truly been cleaned by other dishwashers: Gone.
Don't waste water rinsing and cleaning your dishes any longer. Please I beg you. Let this thing do its job. It's truly an all time Pro. I ENJOY doing dishes now.
The no heating element drying means all of my daughters plastic ware is safe. No more melted or warped lids because they got too hot. The AutoAir feature is a nice bonus over the 300 series and worth the extra $$.
Don't wait for sales, they just don't do it. We got ours with free install and we consider it a steal.
Dishwasher is awesome. Lots of room. Cleans dishes excellently. Having 3 racks is a huge plus. We don't even use the silverware rack in the bottom. We use the top rack for that. Which opens up more room in The bottom rack for larger pots and pans. The adjustable second rack is great for those taller coffee cups. This dishwasher uses less water, which means you get to use less detergent, and still get your dishes clean. Something no one seemed to know, was whether this dishwasher came with the Bosch 3 prong power plug. Some people told me I had to buy it separately. Happy to say they were wrong. The washer I bought from best buy came with the 3 prong plug. Meaning I could plug 1 end in to the dishwasher and had a standard grounded plug for the wall. The 1 flaw this dishwasher has is it's drying. It's decent on glass and metal, but lacks on plastic. The fresh air feature does help a little, but it's something Bosch needs to refine further to get better drying. All in all it's a great washer. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

THIS QUIET DISHWASHER OFFERS A GREAT USER EXPERIENCE
Bosch is a top name in dishwashers for a reason. Bosch dishwashers combine great-looking design, luxury extras, and exceptional performance. The 500 Series SHPM65Z55N reinforces that reputation, offering a scaled-down version of 2019's 800 SeriesFull Review
I would like the manufacturer to answer my question regarding this unit having or creating bad odors.
(MODEL # SHPM65Z52N) IF THERE IS AN ODER, WHAT IS CREATING IT?
The only answer I have received seems to be from the same person.
A:AnswerNo, the display is hidden. There is, however, a small light that shines on the floor to let you know when it’s running. I haven’t found myself wishing that there was a front display, it’s a FANTASTIC dishwasher
A:AnswerIf you make sure the discharge hose (drain hose) is at the recommended height (usually 1 or 2 feet above the drain pipe, or garage disposal drain connection) you should be ok. However, some local plumbing codes (which depends on where you live) may still require an air gap. If you are installing it yourself here is a good install video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU2QWvnEpRo
