Synopsis

Godzilla
The king of all monsters returns in this Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures production helmed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters). As the story opens in Japan, we find dedicated nuclear power-plant manager Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) so caught up in his work that he forgets it's his birthday. Sending his young son Ford off to school before reporting to the plant with his wife Sandra (Juliette Binoche), who works in the reactor, Joe begins to suspect that some suspiciously patterned seismic activity may be something more sinister than shifting tectonic plates He's right, too, because when the plant goes into meltdown mode and Sandra gets caught on the wrong side of the containment door, a massive cover-up ensues. Fifteen years later, Ford (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) has become a bomb-disposal expert in the U.S. military. He's just returned home to his wife Elle (Elizabeth Olsen) and their son Sam (Carson Bolde) when he gets word that Joe been arrested in Japan. Long estranged from his father, who was written off as a conspiracy theorist for his failed efforts to prove the Japanese government was attempting to hide something about the earlier disaster, Ford nevertheless ventures to Japan to get him out of jail, and reluctantly agrees to join him in traveling to their old home in the quarantined zone. Subsequently taken into custody, the pair end up in the very plant where Joe used to work, and where scientists Dr. Ichiro Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and Vivienne Graham (Sally Hawkins) are studying a massive cocoon-like structure that appears to feed on radiation. The situation turns critical when the events of the present begin to mirror those of the past, and a terrifying winged-creature dubbed a "MUTO" is unleashed. Meanwhile, as the military attempts to devise a plan to destroy the beast, signals indicate that it had been calling out to something before it broke free, and the scientists learn that it has awoken a towering, godlike leviathan that has lied dormant for centuries, and may be mankind's only hope for restoring the balance of nature. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Good Movie, careful how Best Buy has listed here

The movie is great for Godzilla fans, and enjoyable for everyone else especially when he is on screen. This is more of a review of how Best Buy has this listed as of 8/29. It says: Godzilla (MetalPak) (Blu-ray+DVD+UV Digital Copy) (2 Disc) (Special Edition) (Ultraviolet Digital Copy) (DVD) . To me this says it has all 3, the Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy. Some people will be sad to find that they thought they were getting a steal at 19.99 for all 3, but only ending up with DVD. (notice the DVD in parentheses? at end). Other versions currently say exact same thing, except it will have Blu-ray or 3D Blu-ray in parentheses, and are more expensive. Buyer beware!

    Best Godzilla Flick Ever!

Gareth Edwards has made the perfect Godzilla film for die hard fans of the King of the Monsters. I've heard that some have complained that Godzilla was not in the film long enough. I think he was in the film for the absolute perfect amount. If I were going to make a Godzilla film, it would be just like Godzilla (2014). See why Godzilla is still King of the Monsters and savior of Mankind!

Been a huge Godzilla fan for as long as I can remember. Have all of the originals on VHS and I've been buying all of them up as they come out on DVD/Blu-ray. Sadly, I no longer have the destructible New York City to go along with the figures that can shoot missiles. Needless to say, I love Godzilla. This version was a huge opportunity for the West/Hollywood to undo the atrocity that came out in 1998. And it does a hell of a job, too! The special effects take the cake in this one in terms of rendering an incredibly life-like experience that puts you right there in the mix of things. The camera angles are almost all done from a "realistic" angle of where a human would be rather than just going for that perfect shot to display everything going on in the battles. At first, I wasn't a huge fan of the new design for Godzilla, but it really works. The larger, whale/gorilla-like form goes well with his pace and movements. He's got a bit of a human touch as well. The only downside I can really think of is the lack of direct screen time for the big guy. I was slightly disappointed after seeing the movie on opening night because he wasn't in it more, but Edwards really did a great job with how he handled the action. He keeps building up the expecations throughout until the end when the action really takes off. You don't hear Godzilla roar near as much as in the older movies, but it has a huge impression each time that he does. I get the chills every time it happens! I highly recommend watching the extras if you have the time. The first set, you can skip, though. They just rehash scenes from the movie with actors monologuing in the background. Really doesn't add anything. The second set goes into the making of the movie from the designs, storyboards, set construction, and more. It's almost an hour for the 4 of them, but I really enjoyed watching them all. Fantastic movie for anyone in my opinion. Whether you like action movies, monster/kaiju films, or just enjoy a solid movie, check this one out. If anything, watch it for Godzilla's finishing move. Pretty epic!

Excellent Movie . Godzilla is an old time classic and I really liked how old Godzilla and facts of history were slightly twisted to give us a clear image of the true Godzilla even in this modern day set. Godzilla was beefy, was well designed, and nicely sculpted. He must work out at the gym a lot. Beautiful.... His enemies however looked fake, almost mechanical with their straight lines, LED-looking eyes, and not so natural which was the only real negative comment I would offer about the movie.

This movie was simply perfect. It follows the Godzilla format perfectly while telling a unique and original Godzilla story. Many staples from the Godzilla franchise are all over this movie and plenty of fan service for the old school crowd. The director really captured the heart and soul of the Godzilla franchise. I get the idea that a lot of the hate you hear for this movie is coming from people who aren't old school Godzilla fans. Whether you are a fan of the Shôwa series, Heisei series or Millennium Series there is definitely something in this movie for you. I cant say too much more without spoilers. On the other hand if you have never seen a classic Japanese Godzilla movie then this likely isn't for you. Like it's predecessors the story focuses on the human characters and the philosophical question of how much control does man have over nature. While there are some great monster on monster brawls if you strap yourself in for that reason alone you will be greatly disappointed. The best way to describe Godzilla is the love child of an art film and a disaster film. This movie was made for the existing fan base, not for the summer blockbuster crowd.
