    Synopsis

    Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
A thesp-turned-crook gets a chance at career in movies as well as crime scene investigation in this offbeat action comedy with nods to Raymond Chandler. Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) is a struggling New York actor who high-tails it to Los Angeles. Once there, Lockhart winds up at the posh home of the aptly named homosexual private eye Gay Perry (Val Kilmer) amid a lavish Hollywood party, hoping to score a life-changing role in a Hollywood feature. Harry becomes reacquainted with Harmony (Michelle Monaghan), a girl he had a major crush on in his small-town Indiana high school, who may be a bit more interested in him now than she was years ago. He takes both her and her girlfriend home with him, but -- in a moment of drunken stupor -- accidentally sleeps with the wrong woman. Meanwhile, when a series of female bodies turns up across L.A., Harry slowly breaks into detective work, mentored by Perry. The biggest twist? Shane Black riffs Adaptation and other films by having Harry (via satirical narration) write the movie while he is living it. Harry assures the audience that unlike Lord of the Rings, this one won't have 17 endings. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang marks the first directorial credit for Black, who created the Lethal Weapon franchise. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

It took me a while to finally see this movie, like 2 years, and now I am kicking myself for not seeing it in the theaters. This is a great, great movie. The script is fantastic and the actors are beyond that, everyone talks about how Iron Man in Robert Downey Jr.'s comeback or breakthrough performance, well, this tops even that. He is beyond good. So is Val Kilmer, and the two have great chemistry together. There is lots of action and enough funny moments to keep you entertained all throughout.

Curses, hollywood politics sometimes never let good movies get widespread publicity, but this is an excellent movie. The genre is a detective-mystery-comedy. It has some witty sidesplitting laughs while featuring serious who done it plot. This film marked Robert Downey Jr's comeback if you ask me, he does a great job in this movie, and at the 4.99 price it's well worth it, i would have paid 9 as well, it was that good. If it came out today, i think it would have had a big theatrical release. Great film.

Shane Black's movies have their own brand of comedy, usually related to realistic, haphazard-like action that inherently make fun of conventional action movies while also suggesting how cliche typical action movies are. Even the unique narration subtly points out how standardized and utilitarian narration typically is in films and provides insight to a character whose thoughts aren't as polished as the typical narrator/movie hero.

Gave this a re-watch last night, as well as listening to the commentary. It holds up very well and would likely find itself in my top ten favorite films at this point. I really loved this film, Robert Downey Jr. continues to impress me playing basically himself in different smart-alecky roles. There are a few bits that almost get a little too cute for their own good, but the overall experience is a lot of fun and well worth the watch. Recommended.

This movie will most likely not bore you, it's funny, well made and interesting. But it seems that most of the scenes last less than a few seconds before jumping into a joke another few seconds later and so on and so on that you'll be exhausted by the time it ends. Films need those moments to slow down otherwise the whole thing feels as if it's trying desperately to make you like it.

      Great parody

This movie is exactly how a parody should operate. It makes light of the weak points of the genre while simultaneously creating a workable plot within it. Though it may not quite be as funny as your average Mel Brooks film (it's much more serious than that), it is much better than the current parodies that just pick scenes from random movies to mock without having a real strong plotline to connect them. This film is definately a must see.

Michelle Monaghan was the only good thing to this other wise breakneck plot of a crime comedy. Val Kilmer and Robert Downey, Jr. play up with sarcastic talk, but the story is so fast-paced and vague- you don't get it until the third viewing if your still up to the mystery. Problem with this mystery film is that when the mystery unfolds it loses its edge but your too confused with the pace to care.

Shane Black has proven himself as a writer time and time again over the years. In his directorial debut, he proves himself a master of both crafts. KKBB has some of the most clever writing in a long time, delivered flawlessly by Robert Downey, Jr. and Val Kilmer. This movie is amazingly smart and witty. Though it was given very little publicity, this is one of the best movies of the year.
