I already owned the DVD from many years back but hoped the Blu-Ray would be sharper and have better sound. In short, it does not. The DTS-HD soundtrack is under utilized and I felt the best effects were created artificially by my Yamaha amplifier (simulated fly-over effect of the B-17's). The sound editing of the original film reels probably weren't great to begin with so without remixing the whole movie, this was about as good as it would get. In common with many movies from this period (modern but still 30 or so years ago), the grain of the image is amplified on modern equipment and doesn't look great, especially the blue sky. The special effects are disappointing, even for the era they were created and the script is corny and somewhat rudimentary at best. A shame as my recollection of this movie was not so harsh but time has not been kind to it. Its saving grace is that you rarely see more than one B-17 these days, so to have four or five real ones working together as well as the dummy prop ones for scenery, is still a breath-taking sight. If you own the DVD or even VHS then I would not bother to upgrade this one.

This is well-told inspiring story of military aviation in the European Theater of Operations during WW II that needs to be seen by all-that-fly! This film is a credit to the “Greatest Generation” who served without question to preserve the liberty that we all enjoy this day! It is very difficult to adequately thank them for their service without which our present day circumstances could be quite different. You need to visit the 8th Air Force Museum, located about 102 miles North of the State of Florida line into Georgia on the East side of Exit 102 I-95, to glean the full impact of this film. The men who flew the B-17s during WW II were true heroes – statistically they were over 100% dead after flying only 16 missions. What’s the end result – the United States took on, in earnest, the world’s greatest Air Force in 1943 and with day light strategic bombing raids virtually defeated it by the New Year of 1944. During that period the 8th Air Force became the world’s largest air force. Always a great view – it’s a real favorite that tells a remarkable story of our American airmen who fought in the sky over Western Europe during WWII.

This movie looks great in Blu-ray, it's about one of WW2 most famous bombers. Hollywood did take some creative writing of the real crew and bomber, but it doesn't distract from the overall movie. Another great movie for your collection.
