The 16-port Gigabit Switch with PoE provides simple network management delivering network monitoring, traffic prioritization and network segmentation beyond simple connectivity. It also comes with features such as IGMP snooping, cable diagnostics, loop prevention and Auto DoS prevention, providing much needed improvement for network performance and resilience.
A: Not exactly. Once you connect your cable modem to your router and the router to the switch, any devices connected directly to the switch( or by way of installed cables running to other rooms for example) will share your internet connection. Remember, the modem is NOT necessarily a router, but depending on the model, the modem could include a router. My ISP (Cox Comm.) gives me the option of renting a modem, or purchasing my own. I bought my modem, and a router. They're connected to each other, and my router is connected to an 8-port switch. My computer, Xbox, DVD player, AV receiver, etc are connected to the switch. Hope this helps!
