Q: Do the LED blue lights stay on all the time or only when you open the door?
A: The lights have an on/off switch on the inside. The lights do not operate simply when you open and close the door.

A: 17". In fact, you can lay one bottle horizontally in front of each row. The downside to this unit are the wooden racks. They are thin, flimsy and very cheap. A couple came damaged that I repaired and others fell apart. I replaced them all with black steel ones.
