Kickass Sound Bar
||Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.I bought this sound bar in conjunction with a new TV for my apartment set up. My main goals for this sound bar was: -Music quality for hosting get togethers -True Dolby Atmos cinema -3.5mm hook up for my record player This sound bar delivered amazingly on the above. Having watched true Dolby Atmos content via a Roku Ultra, passed thru my new Vizio MQ7 via eArc and confirming with the light blue light on the sound bar the sound quality is nothing short of stunning. True "airy" feeling surround. Now this will not reproduce like a true 5.1/7.1 system can with dedicated behind channels, but I wanted a 2.1 system as I am in an apartment and didn't need clutter of wires behind my couch. This delivers true cinema quality sound on movies shot in Atmos and even TV shows. It produces "half bubble" of sound, not like an all enveloping sound bubble a 5.1/7.1 system would give. But well more than a wall of sound typical sound bars would give. The 2 Atmos height channels are noticeable and give dimension to the sound stage making it feel like a half bubble of sound. For the price of $400 this is a great deal. Music wise this is a true neutral sound system, everything from EDM to rap to rock sounds true and well balanced. I'll add I considered and bought this system also for it's low tech 3.5mm connection for my record player--I am BLOWN away by the sound quality of this sound bar paired with my Audio-Technica AT-LP120 player. I cross shopped this system with a Klipsch Cinema 600 system and was worried this system would not produce enough bass with a barely 6" sub, but it is more than is enough for most medium sized living rooms. Deep true bass that I have yet to feel is underpowered. For $400 you are getting true Dolby Atmos, not a fake processor powered version, a great sound stage and an overall great product from a legacy brand like Polk. I would give this sound bar a 9/10 and highly recommend it for doing everything it advertises and then some. My only complaint really nitpick is the remote is cheap feeling, but I rarely use it as my Roku remote controls the bar with no issue.

Simple setup, complex and amazing sound!
|Posted .This soundbar is meant for people who want ease of setup. Plug it in, set it, and forget it. We utilized the HDMI hookup to the HDMI eARC port of our TV which allows the LG TV remote to control the volume! Easy, one remote operation as advertised. Included in the box are the soundbar, remote, batteries for the remote, an HDMI cable, optical audio cable, the power cable, startup manual, and the subwoofer. The bar itself is the perfect size for the fireplace mantle we have it on. At less than 4 inches deep, it should work for even the slimmest mantle places. It has a pleasing, low profile appearance with its black mesh wrap. The indicators on the front are very unobtrusive and notify you of your volume changes and other setting changes. The sound is excellent and worthy of its Dolby Atmos certification, which is incredible in such a low priced and small package! Utilizing the HDMI cable hooked up to the soundbar and plugged into your HDMI eARC port on your TV allows you to get the full Dolby Atmos audio experience this soundbar can provide. The delivery of clear vocals, mids, and trebles is all in the favor of this soundbar. We also like the top firing speakers as they do help to create more overhead audio dynamics as advertised. The 5.9" wireless subwoofer delivers impressive bass notes for its size and appears very well built. Of note, I really like the rubber-bottomed feet of the subwoofer enclosure, as it is anti-slide and works really well on the wooden floors in the living room and they also elevate the subwoofer which helps to minimize rattling of nearby objects. Some subwoofers have a tendency to slide around overtime, but these anti-slip feet prevent that. The punch bass notes come through nicely as well as low vocal tones. A feature we like with this soundbar though it the nighttime mode that can be utilized on the fly with the soundbar remote, which dampens down the bass notes and increases vocal clarity so you can use the soundbar at night and have a lower chance of disturbing your neighbors or partner if they are asleep in a room nearby. Altogether, I have no reservations in recommending this soundbar to anyone looking for a compact, affordable soundbar and subwoofer setup that includes Dolby Atmos certification. Thanks for reading my review and hope this helps to encourage you in your purchase decision!

Excellent sound bar that's quick and easy to setup
|Posted .Polk’s Signa S4 is an excellent plug-n-play soundbar that’s a huge upgrade over TV speakers. All you need to do to get going is to mount it where you’d like, plug in the optical or HDMI input, plug in the power, and you’re good to go! You’ll get the best sound quality if you have a TV with an eARC HDMI output, and I’m happy to say it works flawlessly with newer Samsung TV’s (just make sure you activate eARC in your TV audio settings). Upon turning it on for the first time, it automatically synced up with the TV and I could immediately control the volume using my TV remote. No setup needed at all. Which is a running theme with this sound bar, because outside of the dialogue and bass volume, there aren’t any other methods to tune the audio. It’s just “set and forget”, which I usually dislike, but it’s a different story when it already sounds good and Polk lives up to their reputation here. Using the included remote, the buttons are big and easy to read. It has dedicated buttons to adjust the overall bass, 3 levels of dialogue amplification, a night mode button, and movie mode button for a full range experience. After setting the bass and dialogue though, I honestly rarely ever touch it. It automatically upmixes audio for the best sound and it consistently sounds good with whatever I throw at it. Which has essentially been a bunch of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney+ streaming, but I’m happy to say it works great with all of them. And while it sounds good with everything, there’s a noticeable upgrade when it comes to Atmos encoded movies. Soundwise, the Signa S4 creates an excellent front stage setup with deep bass for a proper home theater experience. It’s just strong enough to be respectable without upsetting your neighbors, and the night mode works well if you don’t want to wake up your house mates. The sound stage feels open with a width that matches the TV well. It’s not a proper surround system with rear speakers for a 360 experience, but it offers an excellent front stage that’s a huge upgrade over any TV speakers. At about 2” high and less than 4” deep, it’s also fairly compact overall, which makes for a clean, low profile wall mount. The wireless subwoofer comes synced, so it just needs to be plugged in and is about the size of three 6 packs stacked on top of each other. It pairs with the sound bar perfectly and offers a depth to the audio that TV speakers physically can’t match. If you’re looking for a quick and easy audio upgrade for your TV, especially if it has eARC, ARC, or optical audio output, I highly recommend the Signa S4. PROS - Excellent sound quality - Full bass - Quick and easy setup - Great front stage - "set and forget" speaker system - Easy bass and dialogue controls on remote - Bluetooth input - Compact wireless sub is stronger than it seems - Low profile design - Dolby Atmos CONS - Not many audio tuning controls - Not 360 surround (no rear speakers)

Big Dolby Atmos Sound in a Small Package
|Posted .Dolby Atmos is a must have for home theater entertainment, especially since more and more tv/movies adapt it as their format. However, sometimes Dolby Atmos Soundbars can be overly complicated and expensive - the Polk Audio Signa S4 bucks that trend in great fashion! PROS: - First impressions of the Sound Bar and Subwoofer is how nice they look while also being so compact! I mean the Sound Bar is still about 3.5 feet long but its not overly bulky or heavy. I really like the fabric design and just the overall feel of the product for sure! - Setup was a breeze! I personally wall mounted my Signa S4 (which is pretty easy as they provide you a paper guide, just make sure to have a leveler) but once hooked up to the TV you are good to go! - On that note, the Wireless subwoofer also connected super quick and easy as well during setup. - The Signa S4 only has one HDMI port which means if you want Dolby Atmos Sound, you need to connect an HDMI from your soundbar to the Arc/eArc HDMI port of your smart tv. But as long as you know that, you are good for Dolby Atmos sound. - I tested a few movies, and I was quite impressed! The Signa S4 provides a lot of power for a small package and is perfect for the room we put it in. I tried a few movies/tv shows that use Dolby Atmos sound and I could definitely tell the difference especially with the upward firing speakers on this sound bar. - Which I feel like this needs to be made clear: The Sound bar has 1 Center firing speaker, 1 Tweeter and 1 Woofer on each the left and right side, and 2 upward firing speakers on top of the sound bar. The multi-angled speakers is what helps achieve that Atmos Sound and it delivers! - The remote is nice and works well! Easy input settings, volume/bass, and options to make the voices louder in movies which is great. CONS: - I am disappointed this Sound Bar does not come with WiFi. Its a nice feature to have for music streaming directly from your phone or tablet. Of course if you have a smart TV, that would be the remedy. BOTTOM LINE: - This is a fantastic Dolby Atmos Sound Bar setup without breaking the bank! It has a wireless subwoofer, upward firing speakers, and sounds really good. This would be a welcomed addition to your home viewing experience!

Great Sounding Affordable Soundbar
|Posted .This is my first product from Polk and I must admit that the Signa S4 was a great introduction to the company and its products. Inside the box came the sound bar, the subwoofer, a quick start guide, a remote ( with batteries supplied), two power cords (one for the soundbar and one for the subwoofer) a HDMI cable and an optical cable. First off this was incredibly easy to set up atleast with my tv. Once both the soundbar and subwoofer are connected to power and I connected the Hdmi cable to the soundbar and my tv’s ARC HDMI port, my tv automatically picked up and switched audio over to it right away, with both my tv’s remote and the Polk remote being able to control the volume. Immediately, I could immediately tell the difference in sound compared to just my tv and my previous speaker system. Also connected to my phone/tablet via Bluetooth provided no issues at all, it connected like any other device. I also like that the soundbar was sleek and the subwoofer was compact with both fitting nicely on/around my tv set. When it comes to sound there are many things I like here. First off, I can confirm that from my testing it was able to play DTS, Dolby Atmos, and Dolby Digital which was good enough for me even though I am sure it plays many more. The sound coming from the speaker and subwoofer is great and seems to fill the room effortlessly. Sound comes through clear and smooth and the bass is powerful yet not muddy and overwhelming, there is no difficulty feeling immersed in your content from an audio pov. When it comes to music I think these speakers do very well for the average consumer, I also appreciate that the S4 has a dedicated sound mode for music which indeed does have a noticeable impact. In fact, there are three dedicated sound modes (that are accessed from the remote) and I suggest using each for what they support, music mode, movie mode, and night mode(which throttles sound from the S4 to make it more appropriate for night use) I like that there is also a feature dedicated to attempting to distinguish vocals from the rest of the sounds being outputted by the soundbar, Polk calls it “Voice Adjust” and there are 3 levels that do apply a noticeable difference in media vocals, making it much easy to hear the voices of individuals in “noisy” backgrounds. There are LED that light up on the sound bar for indicating volume and bass level I just wish there was also some indication of what sound mode we were in. I think Signa S4 very good soundbar that offers a significant improvement to any tv’s internal speakers and it offers a variety of sound modes and features that will be useful for anyone. It is easy to set up, the bar has a low profile and the subwoofer is compact and easy to maneuver.

Easy to setup with great sound
|Posted .The Polk Audio Signa S4 is perfect for folks who primary watch everyday TV and movies but want the latest 3D spatial sound experience (Dolby Atmos) at an entry level price point, in which this soundbar provides an excellent value. With it being easy to set-up, you start enjoying the higher end sound of Atmos on movies, shows, and music. The Signa S4 a satisfying and cost-effective solution that successfully brings spatial audio to a broader audience. Negatives: No Wi-Fi connectivity or a built-in voice assistant. I set up the soundbar via HDMI cable with eARC on a TCL TV, just turning on the soundbar, subwoofer instantly connected everything effortlessly. By default, the TCL used dynamite sound mode instead of standard mode which I ended up liking the most anyways after trying the other modes. First thing I tried was the Eternals movie that is Imax Enhance with Dolby Atmos and just wow it sounded incredible. It was significantly better than prior soundbar or internal speakers, you will hear some audio behind you and sound spread out farther to the sides. The dialogue spoken is clear and accurate & is adjustable with dialogue enhancement feature. Bass is punchy and defined with extra boom & brightness in the treble. The remote has direct access buttons for the inputs, TV, Aux, or Bluetooth, mute button, volume, and a bass control. Dedicated buttons allow selection of the Movie, Night, or Music modes, along with three levels of Voice Adjust, which is Polk's dialogue feature. The Signa S4 performs well and will be a massive upgrade for most who would like a higher sound experience without spending a lot of money for that level.

Finally! A soundbar w/out recessed ports
|Posted .Overall A solid sounding and budget friendly soundbar. This hits all the right areas when playing Movies, TV, Music, or Video Games. But if I’m being totally honest, Polk hasn’t ever been on my radar before now. It’s not that there’s a quality shortage, but hype doesn’t typically drive this particular brand the same way the big names do. Hype aside the Signa S4 stands among competition, and possibly higher up the totem pole, within similarly priced soundbars. Setup The Signa comes in a pretty average box encased inside of 4 large pieces of Styrofoam, nothing really memorable comes to mind. Pulling it out from the box I briefly inspected the bar, photographed, and set it on the counter. Along the rear are 2 cutouts for the head of a wood screw or other anchor to wall mount. Back to box, I pull the encased subwoofer and notice all sides are solid and plain with the only exception the back hiding a port for power cable and a sync button. Along the bottom you have 4 rubber feet, an air vent and about a 4.5” driver speaker. It’s a clean/discreet design with a polished “Polk” logo across the front. Back in the box there’s an included set of AAA batteries, HDMI 2.0, optical cable, a pair of power cables, quick start guide, mounting template + spacer, and a small remote. Putting it all together on the counter reminded me how easy it is to plug and unplug this unit if it were mounted someplace, like my previous bar mounted to an under TV support system. Powering it on required little to no input from me. I only pressed the sync button a few seconds after watching a flashing light on the soundbar. I obviously skipped reading the startup guide and it shows but as there were no complications I preceded without. Appearance The Signa S4 comes wrapped in a cloth fabric across the front and top. Along the back and bottom are a solid plastic material. Beneath the cloth rests a several drivers. By feel, it would appear to 6 drivers and several vents. It’s very difficult to tell without ripping off the mesh and it tends to create a glare when light is shined on it. Polk also does not seem to disclose those details in the product description page. Across the top of the soundbar are your controls such as volume, source, and power composed of a thick plastic. Usage This is where things got weird with the soundbar. I initially only connected Bluetooth from my phone, HDMI, and an optical cable. With a stream from the TV’s onboard apps, I set it to TV so the source would be the optical cable, at least that’s usually the norm with all other soundbars I’ve dealt with before. What I got was no audio so I switched across all the available source options. First aux played something and when I got no audio I tried Bluetooth. Nothing was working. But to be honest, assuming Bluetooth to be correct was a stretch. I ended up going back to TV and clicked around the screen then switched to aux once again. If I play something while it has no audio it doesn’t seem to come about on its own. But if I click around the screen several times it seems to finally register audio that way. What bugs me about this is that the aux jack on the soundbar isn’t plugged in with anything and the only thing that is are optical and HDMI. I can only assume, since it’s not mentioned in the setup guide nor anywhere I’ve looked, this is the way things are paired in its software. | TV = HDMI | Aux = Aux/Optical/USB | Bluetooth = Bluetooth | On the positive side, the remote comes with several presets that make adjusting things depending on source and time of day simple. A Movie, Music, and a Night preset. Movie gives you the lowest tones and just overall sounds nice with movies and games. Music brings a range of mid and lows and goes best with music. Night muffles the subwoofer and places emphasis on high tones. Even if you raise the subwoofer volume to maximum, you get no feedback from it in this mode. I’m just not a fan of the visual cues that tell you a mode. 1 led flash for movies, 2 led flashes for music, and 3 led flashes for night. There’s an additional preset for vocal tones which ranges from normal to high with a range of 3 levels. These make those scenes with the murkiest vocals audible at normal hearing levels. No more maxing out the volume, putting headphones, or turning on subtitles to hear a whisper on screen. Personal Dislikes A few peeves of this product. I dislike the remote. It feels cheap and the first time removing the battery cover felt like it was going to break. Any consecutive try has changed that feel. The display on the soundbar, or lacking of one, feels cheap. Having a set of lights to tell you a mode, source, or volume level seems outdated. All of my older then-budget soundbars, even though they range from 4 to about 8 years old, offer digital displays that show volume numbers or source input names. That makes getting information from the soundbar much simpler than going off a set of led dots.

Sleek Form and Powerful Sound
|Posted .This sound system was an incredible upgrade from the built in tv sound we’ve been using for months. Setup was a breeze and the slim form factor of the sound bar sits on our fireplace mantle without being too distracting or obstructive. The bar and subwoofer were immediately paired upon powering them on and have a great zero lag connection. One downside though is that I couldn’t get the tv remote to fully work with the sound bar. I have a Samsung frame tv so keep that in mind. I can at least move the volume up and down which is good. Intuitively, the sound bar pairs with Bluetooth devices at the press and hold of the Bluetooth button on the sound bar or remote. This is where the system really shines. It fills our living room with music and the rich bass tones from both the sound bar and the sub take the vibe to the next level. I love the Polk Voice Adjust feature which elevates spoken words above the rest of the sound. It’s perfect for watching tv or movies where the voices are quiet and the music is loud, especially at night time.
