Just to follow up on this - the HP rep, in response to customer question about changing the hard drive to an SSD, clearly indicates that the hard drive IS in fact user replaceable and even points you to the service manual. When you get the back off this unit to access the hard drive, the memory chips are right in front of you (one 4GB, one 2GB). In other words, the user can change the hard drive, so yes, of course they can access the RAM. In the attached photo, the hard drive has been removed (lower left), and the DVD drive is removed (upper right) prior to snapping the bottom off. There are a number of the screws on the bottom to remove - plus (2) screws inside the battery compartment, and (2) more under the rubber feet near the screen pivots (you'll have to peel off these feet). This is a very cheap notebook chassis - very apparent once the machine is open. I would imagine the money saved in the cheap chassis went towards the i5 CPU, instead of the i3. The machine does, however, fly with a solid state hard drive, well worth the upgrade.
