The battery will charge and stay fully charged. When the unit powers on and starts to play music, the charge light will turn on and charge the battery while it's playing. The speaker wasn't designed to play plugged in. The adapter that came with it puts out 1 amp at 5 volts (5watts) The speaker consumes more energy when the lights are on and the volume is loud. I've tried using a stronger adapter and I still get the same result. The speaker's circuity charges the battery as soon as the voltage drops on the battery. Keeping it plugged in will just keep charging the battery while it's running.
