Try unplugging to reset Echo. The red light ring will stay solid when muted as will the mic button.

The mute button light should only be on if the device is muted. If the light is on for that button, try pressing the button to see if it will turn off. If you are talking about the light ring at the base, those lights match up to different notifications or alerts for the device. Each color matches up to a different thing. For example, if the light is purple, the device is having trouble connecting to the internet. Yellow light means you have a notification. If that is the case, you can ask Alexa what the notification is. If it is a slow spinning teal/blue light, your device is trying to start up or set up. I hope that helps you with your issue.
