You can use them independently. If you leave one of the buds in the case and put the other in your ear either will work by itself.

Hello Raymond49er! Thanks for your question! You can absolutely use these Echo Buds one at a time. You are even able to still utilize the noise cancelling feature with only one Echo Bud in as well. I hope this helps and you have an awesome day!

No, not easily at least.

Yes, you can leave one in the case but in my experience so far, that doesn't properly disengage the other - causing very very choppy audio if you walk away.

I prefer to just use my right earbud all the time but maybe the left one is "primary"? Anyway, maybe there's a fix but I haven't figured it out yet after a few days, and it's far from obvious or automatic.
