The only requirement is to link it to any Amazon account and you'll need a smart phone or tablet with bluetooth to download the Alexa app, connect to the unit, then set up the unit. It does not do general internet searches yet though I could see that skill being added at a later date as Google's unit will do that now. If you want specific answers you can tell it to go to Wikipedia for specific topics. It will also spell words, give definitions, solve math problems and tell jokes, among other things. You can connect it to your Google calendar and ask for a list of appointments which it will read back. You can also verbally add items to a calendar, shopping list, and to-do list which Google's unit cannot. You can then ask it to read those back as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Wifi only for all that. Additional apps, devices, Amazon Prime, all just add extra layers of functionality--but, you do get Alexa just with Wifi. Which is awesome
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Nothing else for those questions. But to control lighting, tv, etc you will need other devices.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You just need to use the Alexa app (from your smart phone) to setup the dot on your wifi. I don't even remember if you need an amazon account (probably do). After that you can start asking questions. (You may need to set your zip code in the app so it knows where the weather is for).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Nothing.
