Has to be plugged in. I just say yesterday that they are coming out with a battery so you don't have to keep it plugged in.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Echo Dot is a standalone unit and just requires 120VAC outlet and Wifi Internet. That is it. It has a built in speaker that is the equivalent of laptop speakers, but it has a 3.5mm Aux jack on it so you can hook it to external speakers to make it sound better. Will also hook to Bluetooth speakers. The regular, taller Amazon Echo has the same brains as the Dot, except it has a decent quality built in speaker with it. So that is why the price difference.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Echo Dot doesn't have an onboard battery so it will need to be plugged in to a wall outlet with the included cable and plug.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Tap is rechargable. The Dot has a wall wart like the Echo.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Echo Dot requires plugging to a power source (Wall) via the power cable that comes with it. The Echo Dot doesn't use batteries and wouldn't power on without the power cable. Hope that helps.
