Yes u have to buy a home hub kit that come with the the brain control (smart hub) and two light bulb. After that u can buy as many light bulbs as u want and control them Individually. Light switches and plugs and thermostat can be control too.

I've had good luck with the TP-Link smart outlets and TP-Link smart light switches. Alexa works with many other automation systems besides TP-Link, but I like them because they don't require any sort of hubs or special light bulbs.

We have a Samsung Smarthub - and initially picked out switches that were compatible with the hub, it just happens that they also work with the Echo.
