It does everything Echo does but with a lower audio range, both input, and output. You can pair the Echo Dot to Bluetooth speakers. The full-size Echo allows you to pair Bluetooth-enabled devices to it but not it to other speakers.

The echo dot would be better for a guest bedroom or smaller. One difference in design other than size is the echo dot offers a 3.5 MM jack input which can be used to connect to headphones or sounds bars. The echo does not offer this feature.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.They are basically the same in function. The echo has better speakers. The dot has an outlet that can be hooked to a stereo system. They are both blue-tooth so you can pair either to a portable speaker. I actually started out with both and put them in different places in the house. Since I am slowly going partially wireless in the house I have added several others so I can get Alexa to do stuff when I am in various rooms. I am currently looking into hubs and/or nesting router configurations to expand on the abilities that Alexa provides. I recommend trying both.

I have both and I use the dot in my bedroom to change my thermostat and set my lights to on and off, but music is best with the full size echo. It has better speakers and more of them. The Echo and the Echo dot work well with each other, so you can connect them.
