• I don't think so. It's seems pretty well built to me. It's surprisingly heavy for it's size.

• You do not have to buy an extra warranty, but I chose to, because the cost was so low, & these devices are used frequently. The warranty is a bargain.

• I wouldn't recommend purchasing an extra warranty. For $49.00 and even cheaper when you can find it on sale it becomes a throw away device at this price point.
