The dot has an app called Alexa. Through the app u can add the dot. Once added you can use it as a timer, add or remove dates and times to ur calendar. You can also buy special bulbs, light switches, electrical outlets that will turn on and off with a simple command to Alexa. There are also skills which are basically add-ons to the Alexa app that let u do things like listen to a book or maybe u want some rain in the background. It plays music, it has it's own speaker, or u can pair it with ur Bluetooth headphones or speakers. This is just a couple examples. I hope this answers ur question and helps out.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need nothing to use it but an Amazon account is recommended as a convenience for music, ordering products, etc. Echo works with other products to automate your home as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This Echo Dot turns your house into a smart home, allowing control of devices with Bluetooth, playing music from playlists, and even ordering pizza. This product is not a necessity.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Echo Dot is exactly the same as the full Echo with slightly less sound quality. All other functionality is the same. All you need to use it is WiFi. You don't need an Amazon Prime account to use it but if you have Prime you then have access to all Prime music. Even without that, you can create a free Pandora account and get music through that. If you have Kindle books, it is able to read those and they actually sound pretty good - much better than other computer-generated voices. If you have an Audible account, it can play your Audible books. It's search engine is pretty good, but not on par with Google. The newer Google Home is similar to the Echo, but wouldn't have access to your Kindle or Audible libraries. It does have the better Google search engine. So, if you have an investment in Kindle books and/or Audible audio books, or Amazon Prime, I would go with the Echo. If you don't have those investments, I'd go with the Google Home to get access to the better search engine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need constant Wi-Fi access, a tablet, computer or iphone app to connect it to your Wi-Fi, and to download apps (or they're called "skills" on the Echo Dot). Very easy to use and fun!
