• I believe shape and speakers to get main difference. XM app can be used with all echo products as far as I know.

• The 4th generation is a globe shape instead of the 3rd generation disk. The 4th gen has better sound that projects into the room. Sirius plays on both 3rd and 4th gen echoes.
