It will connect to amazon music if you have an account, but you don't need it. Most of the time, I just connect it via bluetooth to my phone and play music from my phone on Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

No additional services need to be purchased to listen to music on the Echo Dot with Clock, you can start listening via Amazon Music as soon as its set up. You can link additional music services by going to the Alexa app and selecting More, then Music & More and selecting the Gear icon at the top right. I use Apple Music with my devices, along with Pandora for when I'm not 100% sure what I'm in the mood for. I hope that helps, have a great rest of your day!
