  • QuestionDo you have to have your cell phone on with the app open whenever you are using the Alexa Echo Dot 5? Or does it work without the app running once it is set up?

    • Answer You don’t need the app open at all. Once it is setup you can have your phone turned off and it still works. I always use my Alexa to play music, tell me the weather and even turn on my LEDs all without having the app open.

    • Answer Hi Frank, Unfortunately no, your wifi network must use a compatible eero router and your Echo device must stay in range of a compatible eero device. You will need to link your eero and Amazon accounts and manage eero Built-in from the eero mobile application to use this feature. eero Built-in compatible Echo devices support up to 1,000 sq. ft. of additional coverage, speeds up to 100 Mbps, and 10 or fewer connected devices. Actual performance can vary and certain eero, Echo, or Alexa features may be incompatible with eero Built-in. Learn more about eero Built-in performance, availability and compatibility. Use of eero and eero-related products and services, including eero Built-in, requires creation of an eero account and agreement to eero’s Terms of Service. Review eero’s Privacy Notice.     • Answer Hello Candi, The Echo Dot with Clock itself does not require any subscriptions for basic use. The only required account is an Amazon account. With this, you will be able to access Alexa capabilities. If you would like to add any additional services, such as Audible, Pandora, Spotify, Etc. There may be secondary subscription requirements for those services. I hope this helps!

    • Answer Hi Sereen! Yes, you can use your device outside of the U.S. as long as it is in one of the supported countries. To use your compatible device in a different supported country, you will need to change the country settings for your Amazon account. Here are steps on how to do that: 1. Go to “Manage Your Content and Devices” on your Amazon account. 2. Open the Preferences tab. 3. Go to the Country Settings section, and select Change next to your current country. 4. Enter your new address, and choose your new country. Then select Update. 5. In the notification that displays on-screen, select the learn more option, and then select Transfer your Kindle account to or Update your default Kindle Store.     • Answer Hello Caut, every Amazon Echo device has the capability to add parental controls. The difference between them is that the Kids version comes with that feature already enabled and comes in kid friendly designs. The Kids version also comes with 1 year of Amazon Kids+ which is a service that gives you access to thousands of kid friendly games, educational options and more. If you want to use the Echo Dot with Clock as a kids version, simply go into the Alexa App and enable the Amazon Kids feature under the settings. Once enabled you will have access to the Parental Dashboard and be able to set up your parental controls from there. Hope that helps, have a great day!

  • QuestionDoes anyone know how to connect my Echo to a Hisense google tv? Ive downloaded the skill and I can do basic things (slide volume, toggle on and off) But people can switch to apps like youtube, netflix. My tv doesn’t show up in the ap tv and video section

    • Answer Hi Joshy! Not all Hisense TVs have the same level of compatibility with Alexa across different models. For example the most powerful Alexa control is only available currently on the 55” 65” H9E and H9x0E series TVs which feature "Alexa Built-In" (pulled from Hisense's website). When you use a connected device with a Hisense TV you'll be limited to the features you mentioned like changing the volume or channels. I hope that clears things up, have a great rest of your day!

While you can't directly call 911 from the Echo Dot with clock, you can use the Alexa Emergency Assist to connect with a trained agent who can request emergency services. In order for this to happen you need to: -Purchase an Emergency Assist subscription -Say "Alexa, call for help" to a compatible Echo device or the Alexa app -The agent will ask for information and request emergency services like the police, fire department, or an ambulance.     • Answer Hi Kevin! The Echo Dot with Clock doesn't feature a screen, so it's functionality with security cameras is going to be a little limited. If you're looking to be able to utilize features like the Ring Indoor Camera's two way talk, you'll just need to link your Ring and Alexa accounts in the Alexa app. Generally, any cameras that feature the "Works With Alexa" badge can be linked up with Alexa and used in routines along with the Echo Dot with Clock such as making an announcement when they see movement.
