From where does the stick pick up the wifi? Do I have to provide wifi and if so how? I don't understand wifi. is it from a device you buy to subscribe to wifi or is it a broadcast signal without need of add on receivers?

You must have a wifi provider at your home. Once connected you enter your wifi information into the fire stick and you can begin using it

Depending on your internet service provider! Some companies provide wifi with Internet service! The fire stick connects to the wifi and broadcast the apps provided! To connect the fire stick to wifi you must go in the settings menu and follow the instructions given in network menu!

You do need to have wifi. If you have Internet you probably have wifi. It's just wireless internet.
The stickies great.
It plugs into you TV in an USB port. If your TV does not have a USB port you can probably get an adapter. Take a picture of the back of your TV and bring it to best buy. If you don't have a USB port on your TV they can help you get the right adapter.

So the stick is great. It connects your TV to the Internet. It has some apps built in, netflix, Amazon and others. You can easily add others like Redbox. You just set up an account online then login to your account via the stick. The remote that comes with the stick makes navigation easy.
