The device is portable and not bound to just one TV. You can move it from TV to TV (but it does not have the ability for you to share it with multiple TVs at the same time). All you need is an HDMI connection on your TV and Wi-Fi and you are all set. Once you connect it to your network the first time it will continue to remember it as you connect and disconnect from the TV.

So if your TV is "dumb" with no apps, isn't attached to a networked video game console, and/or isn't attached to a Bluray player that can access Netflix then it will need the FireTV Stick to access Netflix.
