You need to pay for Amazon Prime if you want to use their service. If you want Netfix you'll need a login. But you don't need an Amazon Prime account to use the device. You do need an Amazon account though. (Which is free.)

Please try again later.the main goal of this is to have Amazon Prime, but you don't have to have it. there are plenty of other channels that don't require a subscription and you can watch Amazon video pay per view. also you can side load KODI and add hundreds of online channels through that. It can be used on any TV with HDMI, and won't interfere with your smart tv functions since it would be on a different input

Amazon Prime just introduced a month-to-month streaming-only option, as opposed to the regular annual Prime membership.
