You select News Channels through use of APPs you download. Many APPS are Free but at times you need to have Registered/ Log In or use a Code or be a subscriber to watch the news of a particular Network. Basically if you already have Cable TV what you find on Fire TV Stick will not be much different. You can buy Fire TV Stick and use it for less than 30 days and if you don't like it. Return it. There are plenty of Good Apps however, there are more terrible Apps than you can believe. Amazon tries to sell you on everything possible. Many apps require Log in, pre-existing subscription, join and subscribe to pay, give you a Code and need to go to your computer and go to the website and enter given Code. In reality, Amazon Fire TV Stick has many options but the bottom line is that it may cost you so much more than having Cable TV depending on services or apps you select. I like the Alexis feature (microphone voice recognition) on the remote control and the ability to Mirror photos, video programs from my Computer to the TV. I find using my desktop computer is better than Fire Stick. I can download and watch just about anything and everything from my computer. A Smart TV with or without Fire TV Stick is still dumb. Smart TV Monitors manufactured after 2017 have all you really need. My wife complained about our Dec. 2014 mfr. Samsung 55 inch Smart TV released in 2016 and could find anything on TV worth watching but repeats. I am forever downloading and putting TV shows, complete seasons and movies on two 128GB USB flash drives which plugs into the back side of the Samsung so she watch them. We don't have Cable TV and in our 30 years of marriage never had Cable TV. Our 2 daughters grew up without Cable. Reason, I can download so much off the internet why pay for it. We have not even been to a movie theater in last 7 years. Why pay when its free in the comfort of your own home. So now we have a Fire Stick and my wife complained about it after installing it last night. I've played around with it this morning and now that it is completely set up .. I've found it to be BORING and Clutter some. I'm thinking about returning it cause I do so much more on my computer with ease (Firestick is not User Friendly). Doesn't really matter what is on Television, wife has a sleeping disorder when not actively doing something, she would miss 50 to 80 percent of the show while sitting down. So funny when the tone - volume increases when there is a TV commercial or when the program boost into an action scene and the volume loudly increases , it wakes her up for a few seconds then she'll fall back to sleep. My daughter will snap here fingers a thousand times and nothing but if you Clap really loud my wife wakes up. Clap On - Clap Off !!!! lol.
