The kindle is specifically for reading books/any other reading material. It’s use it just for that, you can’t use other apps. the Amazon fire is a tablet, where you can still use other apps aside from the kindle reading app. I have both, and prefer the kindle for reading, the battery life is way longer. It’s most likely due to the kind of screen that is used for it, it’s not a regular tablet screen. The fire tablet doesn’t last as long, due to the other apps running in the background as well. I’d recommend the kindle as a reader myself

While both will work for reading, the e-ink screen technology and built-in screen lighting makes it comfortable to read on a Kindle regardless of conditions. Although you could use the Fire tablet to read books, the lack of e-ink display technology means that you'll experience significantly more eye strain than with one of the Kindle devices.
